Where I'm From Poem
Surrounded by the great wall of stone, my origins forever unknown.

A lake to the south and a field of flowers, to a country that prefers only men's powers.

Of the scent of rusty bells and a person to many, my home not found in this city or any.

One child, thus the choice was born, and made within minutes at the blare of the horn. Deep down they knew a boy it must be in order to survive in this harsh country.

Hands of silk threads and a tongue for spice, the girls were given up as a severe sacrifice.
For their families who cherished and longed for girl
but demanded a boy to give them what they thought would be joy.

At thirteen months I lost what I had, given up and left with no option. From Changsha, girls departed quicker than ever, to life and the arms of their new parent forever.

My forever family, lost in the past, where I'm from is a mystery, a question unasked.

Now I live in the city of gardens and nature who am I, I am my own creator. I am of the people who gave me my wings, when I fly, the wind around me whistles and sings.

In a flower filled home of freshly baked bread and a family who loves me with words unsaid. The melodies of love each spoken with care, I know that my family will always be there.
