INVISIBLE PAIN
Fog rolls in over the coastal town, damp, silent air and no feet on the ground. Swing is swinging, but not a child to be found.
Jungle gym yearns for a childs touch but the lure of its fun is just not enough. Not enough to break the chains of his reach, not enough to defeat the fear he continues to teach.

Magical and majestic redwood trees, stand strong and stoic in the coastal breeze. They tower over this evil place, casting shadows as dark as his soul less face.
His darkness doesnt deserve the light nor the warmth of the day. His thoughts are evil and the children pay. Pay with their innocence, their unjaded soul. Children torn to pieces who will never be whole.

Confused and uncertain if this is the way. They know no different, its life every day. They want to build tree forts, slide down the slide. Instead they are beckoned to come on inside.

They cannot evade his reach or hide from his view. Days they remain unseen are relieving and few. Stepping out the front door is a gamble they always lose. A bribe of of an ice cream is what he would use.

Love, hate, pleasure and pain. All felt at once but fear was the main. How can they love him and hate him the same? How can he love them if he causes the fear thats their chain?

They want to break the chain, want the truth to be told. They are scared and confused and fail to be bold.
It was ingrained in their brain that they were the weak. Engraved in their souls they were helpless and meak. Their needs were not valued, their feelings were mute.

In his sick, twisted mind he he would never be caught. He thought himself smarter than the children he bought. Bought with the fear he instilled in their heart. Bought with sweet treats and a trip to the mart.

Cautious and careful he always covered his trail .Until his lookout just happened to fail . Supposed to be watching in case someone would come. Instead covering her eyes to dull the pain ,albeit just some.

The front door swings open, no warning, no call. He was frantic and rushed in turn causing his fall. A surprise return made him sloppy that day. A stain left unwashed took the monster away.

Five years of pain and suffering invisible to all? Were they deaf to the sound of his beckoning call? How was our fear not blaringly clear? How did our cries fall on deaf ears?

Did his status and title allow them to be blind? Was his mask so convincing they saw him as nothing but kind? Confused why they sent us into the den? Why when he wanted a sleepover they simply asked “when?”

Their love for them was different, it was warm and felt good. They couldnt of known and still offered them up, no parent would. Their knowledge the children questioned at first. But it was soon directed back to the monster who was quenching his thirst.

The adults anger and pain was intense from the go. Their want for vengeance was hard not to show. Their two dads came together as the same thought arose. They wanted to deliver the fate the monster chose. But the love for their children won out over hate. They left him to the law to suffer his fate.

The physical pain had come to an end. The monster now the prisoner had no message to send. No sorrys were spoken, no regrets were made known. No admission of wrong doing until the children were grown.

Forgiveness was given, but not by them all. Its up to each one when to make that call. His time in prison was a slap in the face. The life sentence the children serve should of been put in its place.

Instead of learning to swing in the warm ocean breeze, they were learning they held no value and it was their duty to please. Instead of climbing amongst the redwood trees, they were being molded into what they forever would be.

His grasp on their bodies ended long ago. His grasp on their identity continues to show. They fight to erase the pain of the past. They want the happy times to be the ones that will last. They struggle to embrace the thought that love doesnt come with pain, they dont go together, they are not one in the same.

They thrive in their lives despite their past. Unlike him who withers away wondering if today is his last. He will reap all the seeds thats hes sown. Getting back the same kind of love the children were shown.

Karma will deliver the justice the court failed to impose. He will await death scared and alone, thats the fate that he chose.
