As far as a letter goes,
It was nondescript,
The message it carried was sinister
Scratching at my very soul

The words lit my eyes on fire,
Breeding thoughts of the end,
Bringing up the past from the grave,
and reminding me of how broken I am.

The images brought about,
Lay heavy on my mind,
Like mortars spitting fire into the sky,
Leaving behind an emptiness
In the spot in which it hit the ground.

I burn the letter,
But the words remain,
For the truth was written upon the page,
And the truth always remains
Never to be erased.
