It is easy to fall
through the cracks
when the gaps between
one's home and a ward
can fit an entire society.

For nothing can be done
efficiently and with heart
in a system of paperwork
and corridors.

And no-one is inclined
to believe another's plee
until they are
the echo of a dead man.
