I search for the words

but find carcasses of thoughts

that have been starved for too long and died

waiting for me to not be afraid.


I've always been afraid.

But never of failure or looking like a clown.


I'm afraid of keeping dead things alive

that can hardly walk,

or things that float in tanks

instead of gracefully coursing through the water.


I know you are dying,

so am I,

that's why I want to give you something

that makes us feel alive.
