I've lived in million dollar mansions,
And also apartments crawling with rats.
I’ve walked with those in 3-piece suits,
And many who preferred jeans and hats.

I've found comfort in some who had nothing.
True friendship felt in those who’d lost it all.
Real loneliness I experienced rising to the top.
Only desperation existed in the midst of a fall.

I’ve observed so many different people.
Seeking the meaning of life is a common goal.
Though acquiring it alluded them all I saw,
Until revealed by the ‘dark night of the soul’.
