Unpopular opinion on art and coloring
I usually hear a lot of adult coloring book instructors say “Add shading, add layers to keep your picture from looking flat. But there’s nothing wrong with flat coloring. If I decide it looks good and I’m done, that’s all that matters. I’m not spending all day on it when I have other things to do. Flat coloring implies my art should always please others over myself. And I’m unlearning people pleasing. Sometimes I’ll add more, but I usually like my coloring to be, not sloppy necessarily but faster. The color is down, I’m happy. When children color, they keep it simple. But adults aren’t happy with their art unless they sacrifice an arm and a leg.
