Friends always use the back door
I remember the days when life was so simple
Tire swings and the Dairy Queen
Outside till the street lights came on
Playing wiffle ball
Surviving skateboard falls
An ode too times long gone

Families getting together each year
Boxed wine and kegs of beer
A block party of epic proportions
Mom grabbing the microphone
Standing on a table all alone
Warbling in laughable distortion

Friends always use the back door
We didn’t need formality
It’s just plain rude
If there’s attitude
That’s not how we treat family
Just walk on in to the kitchen
Cup of coffee or perhaps some tea
Family always uses the back door
Sweet memories for me
