THE LONELIEST MAN
I met the lonliest man on Earth
He lives on a secluded mountain in a secluded little cottage
His father is long dead
And his mother doesn't remember him anymore
His friends and family are all forgotten
So he lives all alone
No one wishes him on his birthdays
There are no celebrations on his victories
No tears on his failures
No laughter on his jokes
He owns a phone that never beeps
And a doorbell that never rings
He doesn't know how to smile but to only frown
His cheekbones are hollow
And his eyes are as dull as a moonless night
He wakes up after the sunrise and sleeps before the sunset
And spends all the hours in the day standing by the door
Waiting
For someone
Anyone
To come
I dont believe he lives here anymore
But in a world of daydreams
Where he has more friends than he can count
And a family as extended as the silence on the mountain
I can take him back with me
Or I can leave him on his own
What I fear is not that he might decline
But that he has forgotten how to respond
