My nan didnt believe in tv or AC , I can remember that east coast heat my clothes dripping sweat after a long day of.play. walking in with my cousin's , her hiding the alcohol on my grandfather's breath because he wasn't always a good man but she loved enough for the both of them. She would stand in the kitchen for hours no cook book to be seen but the smell would have you outta bed before the sun rose which was perfect for getting worms to go fishing with, and man she was funny had a laugh like honey and a smile like a warm hug. when the flip flops came off you just knew you were in shit , and she'd giggle a bit when washin your mouth out for saying a dirty word ,but sneak you a cookie that night right before supper because she felt bad . her heart failed her when I was nine , having already lost a grandmother that year my heart felt frozen in time, dressed in black I kissed her goodbye but still expected her to be there the next year. but she never was , and I wonder if she's somewhere looking over me proud of the woman I've become and smiling like she was the sun on these early mornings.
