Broken Unbroken
Digging deep
it’s the 90’s and we’re young
I am just 12 smelling like chocolates and candies
and you, a boy with a stubble beard
'I love you', you tell me coming as easy as the scent from the blue aroma incense sticks from you
with a freaky smile of a teenager,
and I say 'yes' perplexed like a helium balloon in the moist air.

It’s monsoon again
and I’m searching for my poetry
when, 'will you marry me when we grow up?'you smile,
your eyes give a squinch and I love it, a reassuring one
Spilling thousands of promises into the air,
and I give a deep breath, a sign of trust.
Escalating the tides of my silly self,
I render a broken ‘ye-s’ while watching a frog leap aimlessly
embracing the only season which wrote about its beauty..

The rain, and your eyes like the raisins
Ma used to give me with my breakfasts
Squeezed every lilies and butterflies
And sucked each reassuring rain drops from the surroundings.

At home this day
I cramp into that void left by my
Bruno Mars cassettes
and Roald Dahl’s vocabularies and
suddenly life gets jumbled,
I’m there standing amidst hives of sophiscated gold,
before the warmth of a brilliant marriage fire kindling all the marigolds I like,
Henna creating a new life path and destiny on every palms
But tingling my sniff non stop.
And I’m back on my bed.

Many summers and monsoons have passed
cassettes have replaced CDs and
my head is a bunch of half-smoked cigars
months are now days,
and the frogs seems to have ditched monsoons
as I see them in the summers
near the gutter areas still leaping aimlessly
left then backwards.

All the broken promises and your smile like the electricity in my grandma's house
hang on the clothesline in my yard
and its about to rain
this time I take them all in with a straight, unbroken, less shattered 'yes'
'cause a thing broken isn't always stagnant
sometimes they can become the perfect pieces
which can fill those voids left by the 'loves me not' part..
