my cat still loves you
My cat still looks for you.
It's a futile effort, but I can tell
she can still
see you in the reflection in the food bowl,
feel you on her favorite place on the couch,
smell you on the right side of my bed.
She always did love you more than me
(and maybe I did too).
But you left her
(and you left me)
And maybe that's why she cries
at my bedroom door
at all hours of the day and night
(while I'm crying on the other side)
Because she remembers, just like I do,
all the nights when you were still mine.
