A Tibetan Kid
I was born here in Delhi,
grew up playing cricket in the streets
but the stamp of a foreigner never left me.
In the school I was taught
the lessons on Hindi and Sanskrit,
but my mother never left me any choice
but to learn Tibetan and Mandarin.
In the morning I was reading
the Ramayna and the Mahabharat
in the evening my grandmother
never left me any choice
but to listen to her Tibetan folk tales.
I was shopping for my brother's
wedding in the crowded Indian market,
in the evening I was selling
sweaters in the crowded Tibetan market.
