Boiling The Pot
They like to assert the fact that "A watched pot will never boil!"
Then after their next breath— "A boiling pot should always be watched!"
How am I to know when the pot moves from calm to a full roil
How am I to be sure the boiling of the pot won't be botched
If I'm not sittin' smitten— waiting a watch— glued to the crock
Two eyes toiling the saucepan for the first sign of aggression
They can't expect me to truly trust the keeping of the clock
To check on the state of the pot in five-minute succession
No— I'll be sitting like a rock, watching the pot like a hawk
Whilst poking the pot a bit— provoking it to expression
Will a watched pot come to a rolling boil?— they say it will not
So I'm testing out a poked pot— will it boil, will it get hot?
