GUILE
The wise grey hair cautioned
"never believe a man's word
when he is hungry
nor when he is desperate"

But we took to heel
Honoured his caution for granted
Covered it with our jovial ignorance
And let his warning fell on dead rocks

Their sugary speeches
And honeyed promises
Reiterated in our ears
And gradually beguiled and subsumed
Our consciousness

But little did we know
They're ambassadors of dissimulation
And it's gonna end in a wreck
Like the Titanic
With our lives not honoured
Our bodies their bait
And our blood their fishing ponds

Little did we know that
The wise man was right
We are gonna feed on stones
Drink from gutters
And drop calls on dead ears
