Up in Smoke
I was a hired prom date once
For a girl from a small town
Her best friend also needed a date
And her date was the boss of my girls parents
Let’s call him Billy
This was getting awkward
We go to the prom
Do the walk
Get the diploma
A dance or two
I was sitting at a table twiddling my thumbs
When Billy came up
He asked if I want to smoke a joint with him
I nearly leaped out my chair
We went to the smoke pit and hid the best we can
After all weed was illegal and this a small town
We puff, puff, and puffed
We went back inside
I saw the buffet
Those roast beef sandwiches had no chance
My girl’s parents saw my gorging and laugh
“You sure got a appetite.” they said
Billy came back
“Round two?” he asked
“Yes!” I said
We went back out and spark one up
But this time a group of boys and girls came up
They wanted to join and Billy passed the Joint
Puff, puff, pass
“Oh, fuck the principal!”
A shrill voice called out
She points at the students
“ALL OF YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO YOUR PARENTS WHY YOUR GETTING KICKED OUT OF YOUR PROM NIGHT!”
She points at Billy and I
“YOU TWO GET OUT BEFORE I CALL THE COPS!”
We nod and leave
As we walked away we hear voices
Angry parents, tearful high schoolers
We walked down a gravel road
Tall pines on both sides
The full moon illuminating our walk
At a intersection Billy turned to me saying
“Let’s smoke another joint.”
“Fuck yes!”
