winter rain
I'm out at dawn and on the road
I walk and am at ease
I take in nature all around
And I do as I please.
I have nothing to keep me home
No wife have I therein
Still I can taste my freedom and
I don't think that a sin.
I often feel a little pang
It smarts to feel so sore
It hurts me in my heart of hearts
No one knocks on my door.
Yet nature for me always there
It's splendour takes the pain
I cry beneath the summer sun
I cry in winter rain.
