in scrambled-up words and splatters,
in slurred song lyrics in reeking booths
or someone's car against the
outback sunset.

in a glass art studio, screeching and
covering your overalls with paint.

you hold lift doors open
for strollers with babies inside, smiling
sleepily at the sight of you.

you are a tiny star in this expanse
of black velvet,
like the skin-tight dress you wear
with an initial resting
between your
collarbones.
you wish for it to be tinged pink
and to cover it with a familiar-smelling
jacket. you deserve to scream
and jump and cry and sing your heart out
with thousands of others,
ink blobs slowly seeping into one black mass, neon green and purple lights flooding over.
you are a lover.
you wish for all the good to come
to all the world,
you prayed for it every night
with chubby little fingers and
rosy cheeks and pouty lips
and bright wide eyes. you dream
of slow-dancing to The Carpenters
in the kitchen at midnight,
to be sat on the cold marble island
and nuzzle noses,
to be back-hugged on a skyscraper
or a holiday resort
as gold beams spread across the tip
of you ear and the mountains.
and you deserve it.
