Eyes of the world
Hope you saw my humble cry
the tears that poised the quiet night
a journey without exclamation
a trial with no confirmation
I cried enough to fill the jars with tears
and damp the ashes in the urns.

Hope you saw my guilful smile
beneath the mask my swirling pride
a resounding drum between my thighs
playing in accord to my syncopatic sighs.
A smile enough to shield my dropping tears
and imprison my hurtful fears.

Hope you saw the blistered palms
of the black boy child
Do your eyes sour from the peer of his
endless labor? do you ever sneer?

Eyes of the world
perhaps as blind as me.
I feel your attempted sly blinks
and hear the clenching of your fist
and the way you shiver at the frigid breeze.

Eyes of the world
perhaps as blind as me.
I see you, and I know you see me.
