Shab e Bara'at
Shab e bara'at, known as the Bara'at night. The night of forgiveness and fortune. Shab e Bara'at is celebrated as holiday on the 14th night of Sha'aban, eight month of Islamic calander. In Islam Shab e Bara'at is known as the night of forgiveness or day of atonement, when all rights all the things good or bad , sin or virtue are written by Allah.This night is known for, when Allah forgives sinners by praising him. This year the festival was observed on Wednesday 08 and 09 april. The Shab e Bara'at began from evening of 08 April ended on evening of 09 april .
This is the major festival for Muslim community. On this night , Muslim do not sleep (some till 12 pm of night some for all night) and praise Almighty Allah to forgive them.. Men spend this holy night at shrines or Masjid Shareefs or homes while women's spend at home, can't spend outside.
•History of Shab e Bara'at
The history of this night dates back to the day when twelfth imam of Shia Muslims was born named Muhammad Al Mahdi.
The night of Shab e Bara'at is celebrated as his birthday by Shia Muslims and the night of forgiveness by Sunni Muslims.
On the other side Sunni Muslims believe that on this day Allah only saved the Noah's ark from the flood . This is why Muslims across the world celebrate this festive day..
•Practice on Shab e Bara'at
On Shab e Bara'at Muslims across the world pray all night to Allah, visit the graves of their nears and dears to make dua for them to reach jannat ul firdouse and light candles.
Some Muslims do a daylong fast while spending the night, seeking mercy for the sins they did. Muslims stay awaken in the night reciting the Qura'an paak(holy book of Muslims) praying after return from grave yards where they prayed for their departed ones and Muslim congregation..
•Importance of Shab e Bara'at
The word Bara'at' means a quality of being guileless', or without guile or deception. In the Arab world, the festival is Layatal al bara'at. The festival falls before the Ramadan(fasting holy month of Muslims) . The holy Shab e Bara'at is observed across the country with due religious fervour and devotion.
Muslims believe that on Shab e Bara'at Allah writes the destinies for the coming year, on the basis of their past actions. Therefore,the night is spent in asking for Allah's mercy for any misdemeanor. Shab e Bara'at is celebrated by Muslim either Sunni or Shia with joyous displays of fireworks( lightening candles on grave yards, houses, and other places)
