Like a Bell
If he can just have one last chance of seeing her beautiful face he would be fine, Al thought as he sat silently waiting for dawn. “When Existence came, Beginning met End, thus, Life and Death was created and they became the reality of creation…” The voice of the Night Etoile reverberates throughout the hallowed halls and the sharp chimes of the bell joined the echoes. “In a few moments, Albright Everise the immortal king will embrace the dawn and be no more.” The ceremonies appointing the new king have ended but the speculations never ceased.

“I hear his life essence was been extinguished.” A woman uttered. “They said he succumbed to blood lust.” A man answered. Whispers, murmurs and heresies filled the congregation all about the old king. “Silence!” The deafening roar of the heir apparent and now king flooded the room. “Such blatant disrespect is intolerable.” In his indignant anger the room was filled with silence.

“A human mind cannot survive immortality.” No words can be truer, Albright remembered the wise counsel of a close friend. His mental and spiritual deterioration immediately started when his beloved witch fell into slumber. Five hundred years later and a few hours to live, he concluded that death comes for every man; it even came for the vampire king. He just wish that in his last waking hours he can remember her face one more time as he close his eyes, as he waited for dawn. He knows the shape of her face; he knows the color of her eyes, and the felt of her lips and her warmth. But he doesn’t remember, so he sits very still pondering and wondering his hours away.

“Your Majesty.” A soft voice of a young woman called. “We found a solution to your predicament. You need a blood of a few witches in your system. That will stabilize your mental exhaustion.” The woman proudly declared. He listened to her but hope did not renew his heart. He looked at the woman and asked “How many is few?” She answered “About thirty live witches are needed for the ritual and you need to suck them dry to bleed their life essence, after that you will be fine.” She cried while kneeling desperate in convincing him to live. He focusing at the woman and shakes his head. “But my brother and I needed you, when we lost our mother you are the only one we have.” There is a nagging in his head like he forgot something really important. So he voiced his concerns to the woman.

“Let’s just wait for my brother as we tell you about the things that are very important.” The girl said with a gentle voice. A few moments later a young man came. “Fa-… Your majesty, I wait for your instructions.” He smiled at the young man he felt so proud. The three figures can be seen in the terrace talking loudly as usual talking about a certain woman.

As they talked he thought if he can just have one last chance of seeing her beautiful face he would be fine. Then Albright Everise said a few moments before dawn. “My children, you make me proud. Both of you look exactly like your mother.” The gentle light of dawn caressed their father, like the sound of a bell he was with them and then gone.
