The Past We Left Behind - Chapter 9
As Ethan raced through the lit city streets, his heart pounded in time with his quickened steps. A bunch of questions swirled in his head. What sinister plan has Adam come up with now and what is so urgent that he has to meet Rebecca in the park so late at night? And, most importantly, can he believe her words or is this just another one of her tricks? With each passing moment, his apprehension increased, but he continued on, driven by the desire to discover the truth. As he walked, he got closer and closer to the park and could already see it in the distance. Normally green and full of life, the park now had a completely different aura at night. Dimly lit, it looked no less dark than Ethan's thoughts as they contemplated all the possible scenarios that could happen. And none of them were pretty. Ethan's steps slowly slowed as he got closer to the meeting place. He sighed deeply and stepped into the park, its darkness enveloping him like an ominous cloak. The sound of the wind rustling echoed through the night, adding to Ethan's discomfort as he looked into the darkness around him, searching for Rebecca. Ethan's eyes darted from corner to corner, his pulse pounding in his ears. Will Rebecca show up? Suddenly, soft footsteps reached Ethan's ears. His heart skipped a beat as he turned his attention to the source. Emerging from the shadows, a silhouette appeared, slowly revealing itself to be Rebecca. Ethan looked at Rebecca, a mixture of apprehension and curiosity swirling inside him. Her face looked cold and calm, giving off a completely different impression from her message. The intensity of the moment hung in the air as they both stood there calmly looking at each other.
"Rebecca." Ethan finally spoke. "What is this about? Why did you invite me here?"
Rebecca's cold gaze met Ethan's. She slowly stepped forward and spoke, her voice tinged with sincerity, "Ethan, I know our history has been tumultuous, but I thought you deserved to know this. I don't want you to get your heart broken again."
Ethan's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, taken aback by the unexpected change in Rebecca's tone. The doubts clouding his mind began to waver, allowing a sliver of curiosity to seep in.
"What are you talking about?" He asked her in a cautious voice. Rebecca took a deep breath, seemingly regaining her composure before continuing, "I'm sorry you have to hear this from me, but Abigail plans to leave you and go back to Adam. He told me so himself yesterday."
Ethan's heart sank at Rebecca's words.
