A Thousand Ways to Stay Sorry Ch.5

Andrew in his bed after school, staring at the ceiling. The dance, which was tonight, gave him anxiety. All he could think about was his new girlfriend, Kelly. He couldn't believe he could be worthy enough for such a girl to like him.
He met Kelly at the mall a couple weeks ago. She was working at the McDonald's in the food court. He stood in line trying to make up his mind on whether he wanted a quarter pounder meal, or the Big Mac meal when she greeted him.

"Hi, big guy, welcome to McDonald's!" Said Kelly, with her braces gleaming from her smile. "What can I get for you?"
Andrew, too shy to look Kelly in her eye, blushed as he answered. "Uhm, uh.. I think I'll have....."
"You think, or do you know what you want?" she teased. "C'mon, kid, I might be on the clock, but I haven't got all day!"
Andrew could feel his temper start to rise a bit. Finally, he looked her in her eyes to give her a piece of his mind, but when his eyes met hers, his heart skipped a beat.
Her face was lit up with a glowing smile. Although her face was covered in acne, her features captured his heart. She had wavy dark brown hair, that either had gel in it, or was greasy from working the fryolator. Her nose was round and cute like a button, but it was her eyes that truly caught his attention. Along with her full lips that smiled at him in such a way that took his breath away, her eyes were as big, and round as two hazel coasters.
"So what'll it be, flee? Hehe." She giggled at her little ryhme.
"I want your phone number....." he blurted, before even thinking about it. As soon as the words left his mouth he regretted them. His whole face became the color of a tomato, and he almost turned and ran out of the food court. 😳
"OK," She answered, and Andrew, who realized he'd been holding his breath, as well as clenching his butt cheeks, began to relax."But, why don't you tell me you're name first."
"I'm Andrew." he introduced himself.

"Well, nice to meet you, Andrew. My name is, Kelly." She smiled some more. It actually seemed as though her smile had gotten much bigger. Then she continued, "I am going on break in a little bit, Andrew. Why don't we meet up and get to know each other a little before I give you my phone number? Say, in about 20 minutes?" she asked Andrew.

"Uhm... sure." he half yelled from excitement.

"OK, now are you ready to order some food? Or is my number on the menu? Hehehe." she giggled some more.

Andrew ordered a Big Mac meal, then went and found a seat in the food court. He couldn't believe that he was about to actually talk to a girl. He never thought anyone could actually be interested in getting to know him, never mind someone of the opposite sex. Yet, now he was about to meet up with a girl from the mall, and she seemed to actually find him at least a little bit interesting enough to want to get to know him.
As he picked through his super sized meal, his thoughts were all over the place. What would he say to her? What if she thinks I'm stupid? What if she thinks I'm ugly? All of these thoughts echoed in his head.
"Hi, Andrew!" Kelly said.
Andrew had been sitting there stewing in his unfounded fear so long, that he didn't realize that 20 minutes had flown by.
"May I sit?" asked Kelly.
"Uh, yeah, yeah yeah, please sit!" Andrew stuttering said.
"OK, settle down there, killa! Hahaha! Wow, you're a rambunctious one, huh!" Kelly said, half joking.
Andrew just sat there, slack jaw, and saying nothing at first. He was afraid to speak, out of fear he'd ruin his chance of impressing this girl.
"Sooooo.... are you gonna talk to me? Or, do I have to do all the talking, Mr. Andrew?" Kelly smiled.
"Uhm, hi?" said Andrew, his voice rising as if he was asking a question.
"Hahaha, was that a question? Yes, hi, Andrew. You're a shy one, aren't you?" Kelly asked him.
"Well," began Andrew. "I guess I am, a little shy. I don't have a girlfriend."
"Oooooh kay, a little bit too much info, but that's a start, anyways." said Kelly. "I don't have a boyfriend. How old are you Andrew?"
"I'm gonna be 16 soon." Said Andrew. "Actually, I'll be 16 in July."
" Well, I wouldn't want to be rocking the cradle, so that's good. We're at least pretty close in age. I'm actually 16! Turned 16 in November." Kelly announced with a big smile. Then she continued. "So aren't you gonna ask me where I'm from?"
"Where are you from?" asked Andrew. Something about Kelly made Andrew start to relax. Her demeanor actually gave him comfort. She wasn't afraid of him, and actually seemed to be attracted to him.
Whatever it was, she made Andrew feel like he never felt before, with anyone. He felt like he belonged. Andrew felt human for once. Nobody in Andrews life made him feel that way. Not even his father.
As they talked, Andrew became more confident. Soon he was making Kelly laugh. It was invigorating for Andrew., and by the end of there meeting, they exchanged numbers and agreed to meet some more. Andrew even filled out an application at McDonald's. However, they never called him in for an interview, but he was ok with that.
