Illusions of love - 03
Takesi was restless in his bed. Sleep left him that night. He spent part of the night in his chambers, under the warm glow of candlelight, attempting to study, but his thoughts kept returning to the girl, Asaka. His heart believed her. She was not lying, but his head had betrayed his heart. Her words did not make sense. How can someone travel through time and arrive here?
He wanted to hear her out, but being near to her made his heart quiver. Made him weak. He raced out of his chambers, not wanting anyone to witness him slip into the cells. He carried a glowing candle and walked to the prisons.
He cleared his throat while standing outside the depressing cell. Asaka was sleeping; he couldn't see her face in the darkness, but her breathing suggested she was asleep.
He cleared his throat again making her stir in sleep. She slept soundly even on the rough ground.
“What?” She gasped and stirred on the ground as she noticed a shadow fall over her cell.
“Calm down, it's me.” He assured her.
“Takesi?” It was weird how she remembered his voice. Takesi raised a brow as he heard his name roll out of her mouth. She dare to say the king’s name?
“You are brave enough to address me by my first name.” He said, standing up more comfortably.
“Why are you here?” She had a lot of gallantry to say that to the king. Takesi didn't want to talk to her like this since he was afraid of being caught or sneaking into the cells, and he couldn't see her beautiful face.
“Tomorrow early morning, I will come back and get you out. We will speak where we left.” Asaka couldn't believe he was here just to tell her that. Can't he send guards? Wasn't he the great king of Kawa-saki?
The night passed with the bleak cool breezes swirling over Asaka. She was grateful for the silk robe they had given her; she felt warm in it.
The next morning, some of the maidens bought her a pink kimono and a hairpin. She wore the Kimono with the help of women, earning their scowls. The maidens couldn't believe they were assisting a prisoner into a Kimono, especially under the commands of their king. He had threatened to kill them if the words soared out of their mouths, and the maidens refused to open their mouths. Knowing how cruel the monarch could be.
“This way.” Asaka was dressed neatly in an exquisite pink kimono. Her hair was styled in a polite and neat manner, with an expensive diamond pink hairpin. Was a prisoner looked after...
