Retirement Banquet
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The setting was perfect. Candlelight, polished cutlery and a single rose set in a delicate vase at each table.Oak wood chairs with velvet colored upholstery snuggled up to the looks of an extravagant, yet comfortable, looking sight. A banner above the stage had read, 'Happy Retirement, Mr. Wade'.

This was a retirement banquet that the whole city had put together. And, Mr. Wade was very thankful. Thankful and excited. He was 65. No more did he have to get up every morning to a daily grind. He could concentrate, now, on his hobbies and personal goals in life.

He was a quiet man, but still, had made a lot of friends along the way. There were some speeches. There was lots of great food. Smooth jazz played from a house jazz band that everyone thought was quite relaxing. People mingling around the room, chating, congratulating him on his retirement, kids played. Somewhat formal, but not so formal that would make one uptight. It was like a fancy family reunion.

Mr. Wade would remember this day. He would remember it and smile. In this insane world where craziness, anger, and hate seem to go out of control; we can't forget the ones that make this life worth the living. Yes, he would spend some time alone. Some moments of 'me time'. Yet, he would always come back and spend time with his friends.

He would never lose the memories of these loving friends.
He would never lose the memories of this thoughtful retirement banquet.
