Had I known that 'just the place' was going to be his place, I would have been more specific. He presses a button near the rear view mirror and the elegant iron gate swings open to a short drive way leading up to a modest two story home.
I clench my teeth to keep my jaw from going lax as the property comes to life. Automated lights illuminate the paved driveway, a bright glow over the doorway as he pulls under the covered entryway large enough to fit two cars side by side, flowering bushes surround the house, placed in such a way as to add privacy, and I'm suddenly curious to see the inside. What this man is really like away from the public eye.
The stereo has been playing softly, filling in the silence between us, an older pop rock band that I almost found myself humming to several times on the short drive over. He turns it off, cutting the engine, and I feel his eyes on me as I sit and stare at his doorway.
"Are you alright?" he asks, the keys in his hand jingling as he shifts and the taunt leather seat beneath him groans. I feel his hand at my hip and my head snaps to the movement as he undoes my seatbelt. "Are you scared?"
I lift my eyes to see his small smile, a wicked gleam in his eyes, and I realize he's teasing. I am, actually, but I won't admit it as I grab the seat belt to slow it's release across my skin.
"I promise you, Sienna, you have nothing to fear from me," he says, lifting his hand to catch mine as I let go of the belt. "If you want to leave at anytime I'll take you back to the club, or wherever you want to go, alright?"
I lick my lips, wetting them as I stare into his eyes. His dark brown eyes look black in the dim light of his SUV, but I see them flick down, and my palm tingles where his thumb is making tiny circles. I think about his kiss from years ago, how it lit me up, and made me crave more of him. His lips had been soft, tender while demanding, and oh, so skillful.
I dreamed about those lips... doing other things to me... sinful things, but it's been years since I felt the real thing, and my breath almost ceases as I think he's about to kiss me. He does that thing, sucking in his bottom lip, and my stomach flutters from nerves.
A slow soft smile and his eyes lift to mine as he asks again, "Are you alright, Sienna?"
I blink, breaking the spell I'm under, and shake my head as I let out a short chuckle to cover my thoughts. "I'm fine," I say, turning my attention back to his home. "I think I'm just a little surprised is all. I always imagined you living in an apartment."
"I did, for awhile, but this is... it's not really mine. Not yet anyways," he says cryptically.
I feel my brows...
