An eye opener
As you walk in a long journey called "life",you encounter many people who come and go ....... but there are few who captivates you and opens your eye.A great impact is left like a blue print and it takes you to a next level . I really took my journey easy until I left home for my further studies in a new place ,far from home .It was on my journey to the queen of hills ,Darjeeling that gave my life a new direction . I met beautiful friends called Shiny ,Ruby , Sunita and Rachana. And we became the best of friends .All of us different from each other our views .Each of us came from different regions with different culture and language but we had all come with a motive .....an ambition to be a woman with a purpose . Our life was sailing smoothly .
It was the month of November ,a gloomy foggy day .It was dark as if rain would pour soon .We walk past the college gate and we're heading to our rooms .A small girl was running wildly and a jeep from the other side was coming in full speed . Shiny ran like anything as she grabbed the girl to save her from the accident . We shouted on top of our voice but in a brink we could see Shiny falling on the ground . And all we could see was blood dripping from her right leg .She was in severe pain .We all ran beside her and people had gathered .The driver of the jeep was caught .Everything happened so fast .An ambulance came and people helped Shiny in ..We were all in tears as we got in with her ,terrified and shocked .As we headed to the hospital ,she had lost a lot of blood from her right leg .She was quickly taken to the emergency room. Her parents were still not informed about the tragic accident that she met .We informed the college authority and the hostel .Our Principal soon joined us to our relief . Shiny's parents were informed and would reach the next day only .And the most difficult part was still about to come . Her right leg was totally damaged and it had to be cut off. The decision was to be taken immediately and it was a hard decision .An emergency call was made to Shiny's parents with Sir giving all the details .We were just crying helplessly in one corner . The parents had given a nod and Shiny was rushed to the operating room . She was soon out of surgery , Shiny still senseless with anaesthesia .We were worried about her .......the most difficult moment was still left .As she awoke , the first thing she asked was about the little girl .Is she alive ? And as we nodded ,she smiled as we cried . What's wrong with you all ?We couldn't say a word . We knew she was in pain but we decided not to say anything till her parents arrived . A nurse arrived to give her a shot and she fell asleep. Early morning at 3am , Shiny's parents arrived .Aunty started crying seeing her .Shiny woke up and smiled meekly at her mom .Her Dad grasped her hand tightly and caressed her . Daddy ...you know I saved a life today .Those words deeply affected us and then she said ,"I know I have lost my right leg but I am your strong girl .Her Dad was out of words as tears sprang from his eyes .Aunty couldn't bear it and left the room .We all ran out and cried .A week later she was discharged but Shiny was in her old self .There was no sign of unhappiness in her face .That episode is still an eye opener for all four of us .And as she bade goodbye ,she laughed and said I'd be back with a bang and I'd give you a big surprise .We would be missing her terribly .We wanted to do something for her and we started a help drive and within a week we collected fund to help her .Our Principal sir helped to pass the fund to her father . Shiny was taken to Jaipur where she got a prosthetic leg and she started to walk .When this news reached us we were so happy .After three months ,we got the surprise of our life as we were in class and Shiny came in with a big smile with Sir .Our class clapped to welcome her .We four ran to hug her with tears of joy in our eyes . I had never seen a girl so determined and focussed .....with big dreams . She had joined once again with us .We were surprised when she mentioned about the girl and had made up her mind to visit .And as we went and met we could see the joy and laughter in her face . There was no sign of grief on her face of the leg she lost . She taught us a great lesson of courageousness and she had a heart of gold . And as days passed Shiny topped with a gold medal in Economics . We became apart but we did communicate .She was preparing for IAS and to our delight she made it to the top .Nothing could stop her dreams
come alive . Nothing could deter her from fulfilling her ambition ....She is truly a woman with a substance and a woman with a purpose.
