FOR OR AGAINST YOUR PEOPLE (CHAPTER 5)
Some days later, Nathaniel felt relieved and okay from his emotional trauma. He got back to the military more prepared than before to face any fight. His colleagues were excited to see him back to training. And his best friend Joe Cole came to him and asked him about what he went through as Rev. Wilson died. Yet upon all these he was more successful in training than the others.

Elsewhere the British saw the lifestyle of the Nframabonians to be weird. To them their language was difficult to learn and was also funny. Their dressing was like that only uncivilised people and their food was unbalanced and non nutritious. The only thing that made the  blacks better than the whites was the abundance of natural resources.

The whites were eager to have access to their natural resources but they did not know how to. In their decision to meet they met in their quarters and one person gave a suggestion saying, "Why don't we try and befriend them. In this way we can gain access to their resources through barter trade, since they don't know how to use their resources. Through this we can help develop ourselves and gain income."

The leaders sat down and realised it would be lucrative for them. They went to the king of the village to see if their luck would work. They went and bowed down to the king. The King asked,"How may I help you?" They replied,"We have come to your majesty with a humble heart and a peaceful manner if we can trade with him and his people." The king asked them to bring out the things they would be selling. They brought out a mirror and everyone in the Palace was astonished.

The king asked,"What the hell is this?!" "This is what we call a mirror",said the white man. He continued,"It shows the reflection of your face so clearly that you don't have to look in water or ask someone how you look." This astonished every single soul in the Palace, thus they wanted it immediately. The British demanded twelve ounces of gold in exchange for a mirror. The king quickly gave them the gold in purchase for the mirror. The British smiled and said,"Nice doing business with you." and left knowing they've cheated the king.

They went into the village and sold dozens of mirrors in exchange for mineral resources. They sold clothes, gunpowder, rice and other food stuffs. In this they fully cheated the Nframabonians yo the extent of having more gold than they could ever imagine.  Their first plan was successful, their next plan was to take over the jurisdiction and territory of the Nframabonians. Since the Nframabonians were illiterates and ignorant it would be easy for the British to take over.

Soon they realised it would be difficult to take over since there's a language barrier. But soon realised Nathaniel was from there and he would understand their language. They intended to make Nathaniel to tell him everything about his people, yet they feared if Nathaniel finds out their intentions he would turn against them.

Due to this, governor Godfred Lordson gave Nathaniel promotion to be his personal bodyguard. He did this to take his mind off both the evil and good intentions he has towards the Nframabonians. Meanwhile, the people were under attack by the people of gbugbla. The King went and sort help from the governor and his council to aid and assist them in defeating their enemies. The British saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of the blacks.

The governor called his council in his secret place, there they planned to make a treaty so that the king would sign so that he would help him. Yet this was not to help the king but to play dirty since the king cannot read and write. The governor took Nathaniel outside so that he would not see the evil plans they have since he could read and write. During the meeting with the king they gave the king treaty to sign.

In the treaty this was what was written, "Every citizen in the village is to pay a pound shilling as a form of tax. Every first born male is to join the military regardless whatever, except having a disability. We would have power over your resources, people and land. All inhumane activities such as human sacrifice and widowhood rites will be abolished. Christianity would be allowed in the village and no one would be killed for preaching the gospel."

Since the king could not read and write the British gave him the wrong interpretation of the treaty. In the council, the elders, the smaller chiefs and the king signed the treaty. The meeting was finally over and everyone dispersed. The British came out with the statement, "Finally we have taken over."
Nathaniel overheard the statement made and asked his best friend Joe Cole what really was going on. Joe Cole narrated the to him on how they lured his people into signing the treaty. Nathaniel with his mouth open and seemed distracted could not believe upon hearing the statement.

He began to think about his family first because they were not all that wealthy to pay one pound shilling for tax.

The following day, the British soldiers went on to help the Nframabonians soldiers fight against the gbugblans. The soldiers went the High mountains in between the two villages and thus, the war was very nice, exciting but fierce to watch. The gbuglans were finally defeated and shouts of victory everywhere as they cut the heads of their enemies leading warrior. For that was their tradition. They came back to the village with drumming and dancing among the village folks. The British mocked them in their minds saying, "They don't know what's coming their way."

As time flew the Nframabonians realised the British were taking over little by little. This angered the king so much that he armed himself to go and face the council of the British. He went to the governor and without thinking twice he gave the governor a dirty slap on the cheek. The soldiers reacted upon seeing what went on but the governor told them to hold on. The king said,"Do you think you own this village, this land, my people, the throne?! Do you? How dare you? Who do you think you are?!" Godfred answered,"I own the village, the land and the people. I own your throne too because I'm the governor of the land. You agreed and signed the treaty. We just deceived you and now, there's nothing, absolutely nothing you can do."

The king replied,"we'll see about that." Then he left with his soldiers and elders. In anger the King rallied his soldiers and went on to attack the British living in the castle. They barged into the castle and caused a riot. They killed most soldiers guarding the castle and most people including Mrs. Diana Wilson who was stabbed and kidnapped the governor's wife and two children. They burnt a part of the castle and released the slaves to join them in the fight. It was a very sad scene to watch as precious items were stolen, prominent men and officials were dead and even Mrs. Diana Wilson.

The fight was so intense that Joe Cole had to escape the heavy riot and fight.
