Fate Whispers

While staring into the darkness, the lone wolf known Kai ponders, who is the voice he hears on the wind.He has heard the vast whispers for a few nights now. Like a whisper from his soul he hears it again,

"Meet me on the beach where the moon meets the sand, where the water dances with the soil. For 1 day dear wolf, your worries will be at rest."

He has been wandering the woods for years alone, with a past he would rather forget. Tudy the name still fills him with anger and love. The reason he left Mendip to begin with. Forced to watch her everyday, he couldn't deal with it. How she could do such things is beyond him, he truly loved her, never again will he let anyone in. Never again will he allow his heart to feel such pain. As he sorts through the memories the breeze blows again. He holds his breath, and listens..... will he hear the words again? And why is a lone wolf waiting to hear words on the wind, he thought to himself, as he scuffs and stands up. Shaking his head at the absurd thought he was just intranced in, he heads back to his temporary den. Really just a hollowed out tree he found about a week ago. As he turns to lay down and enjoy the moon light, his ears perk up as he hears the fant words once again. He can't help but wonder who the calm voice is. As he stares into the forest ahead of him he feels like he is being pulled by the voice. Curiosity, maybe hope... something wanted him to follow the breeze and find the voice on the other end. As he layed his head on his paws for the sun rise, his mind wandered on what could be waiting at the beach....

It's a bright and sunny morning on the small farm. Amelia is up early to care for her chickens, ducks and enjoy the sunrise. Next to sun set its her favorite time of day. When nature is calm an relaxed getting ready to sleep or like herself just waking up to start their day. The smell of coffee and French toast fills the air, as the sun finally takes its place in the sky above. As Amelia returns to her kitchen she is humming and dancing. Wearing a simple pair of jeans and t-shirt, she loves having her little slice of heaven. You see Amelia is a 25 year old independent woman, or so she has been trying to prove to her over baring family. Over the years she saved all the money she could and bought this small farm. Just big enough for 1 maybe 2.... some chickens maybe a cow. As well as 1 small barn fit for 1 small horse. It was just what she ever dreamed of. Better yet it was all hers! It was a short walk to the ocean, just on the outskirts of Lavernock. She loved spending her evenings by the fire on the beach, stacking stones on the shore for family's to find on their walks. Some nights in the summer she camped out and would listen to the sounds of the animals across the water. Mendip Hills was located not far inland directly across Bristol Channel. Most nights on the beach she could hear the howles of the wolves from across the water. She could hear the packs talking and chattering, and once in a while Amelia swore she could hear one wolf, that never seemed to be answered back. Atleast not like the others. Often she would answer, not knowing if it ever heard her, she knew what it was like to be alone and whats a few words to the wind in a dark world?

She had been planning a camping trip with a few girlfriends, they would be leaving on Friday. Her friends were city slickers that thought she was the "hippy" friend. I mean, they may not be wrong but, Amelia didn't feel it was such a bad thing.
After all, her so called hippy ways made for some pretty yummy girl night dinners on the farm. As the evening begins Amelia gets settled next to the fire staring at the stars. Watching the sun set, listening to the birds quietly chirping off to a peaceful slumber. The crickets begin their evening song and Amelia locks the chickens in the coup for the night. Only a couple of days left before her weekend away, the evening is spent doing dishes and laundry packing her most comfy camping gear and few activities for her and the girls to do should it rain. What seemed like moments was over 2 hours and she climbs into bed, waiting to see what her dreams had her up to tonight.

As the sun sets Kai awakens from his afternoon slumber. The forest is coming alive for the night and his belly was getting hungry. It was time to start the evening hunt, but first a walk down to the creek for a drink. Kai was a large male grey wolf with eyes so golden they shine like gold coins in the forest darkness. Kai was set to be alpha of his pack in mendip, that was until things changed. Now he was a lone wolf wandering the forests, running away from his past and wanting to be left alone in his simple quiet life. Roaming the forest for his next meal and watching the days and nights come and go.
While having his drink, Kai spots a rabbit foraging. As he takes stock on his prey he sets and leaps. Landing squarely on a perfect snack to start the night. Kai was only in the area about a week or so. The forest creatures hadn't seen a wolf in many years. And it was noticeable with how easily he was able to hunt.
Deer were preferred as they fed him for a couple of days instead of a small snack at a time, but he would never turn his nose up to an easy meal. He starts to make his way to the field he has been smelling the deer in. He knows they will be a few hours yet but you can never be too early for a good meal. As he arrives he can smell the scent of 3 other wolves near by. Must be a popular hunting spot he thinks to himself, as he find a spot to stalk from and hunkers down to wait. The night air is crisp and clean. Different from the moist hot air from the day. Kai's fur doesn't feel so heavy in this air. As the night goes on, the smell of the deer and other wolves seem to get closer. Being down hill Kai can smell 2 females and 1 male in the area, not far from him. He chooses to move farther down hill as to not allow his scent to be noted. The deer enter the field first. Looks to be a herd of about 13. Kai sees his mark, its an older female that doesn't seem to have young with her. Just as he is about to strike, a wolf tears through the herd sending them all into a frenzy. Going every direction possible and of course his mark ran the opposite way from his attack. This angered Kai, he was hungry and stalking that heard for most of the week he was there. Stupid wolves cost him a decent few meals he muttered looking around to see where his frustration got off to. He catches a glimpse to the right of his stocking spot.
they managed to get one of the young, typical he scuffs to himself. Must be a young starting pack. He will need to move on before they establish a territory. he managed to avoid most issues for a long time and planned on keeping it that way. He turned and headed back to the hollowed tree to wait for his next opportunity, Sun rise.

It's the day before the camping trip. Amelia has all of her essentials packed and only needs to get food ready before bed. Her plan was to spend the late morning and lunch at the shore, with the afternoon for house chores and getting the shopping done for the trip. there was to be 3 ladies total, Amelia, Sara, Bella and Kristy. Sara was married with a toddler, Bella was the Bell of the ball but single and loved to bar hop. Kristy was a waitress at a local restaurant, kinda the girl next door. Amelia and her hippy ways were the perfect match from day one which they were all around for... Every day was the 4 of them. As they grew older and family and schools got in the way, they always made time for the camp out. Even when it was at Amelia's parents house in the backyard. This trip wasn't set to be much different, they had been camping before, and this time there would be much less booze. While thinking and driving she has arrived at the shore, with backpack in hand she heads to her favorite picnic spot to have lunch and decide what to buy from the shop for suppers. while munching on her cucumber sandwich l, she can hear a bunch of teens of in the woods. Laughing and yelling having a grand time. the smell of a fire comes in on the breeze. She is brought back to what to get for dinner when her phone chimes. A text msg, from Kristy. Uhh her boss forgot about the trip and now she doesn't have her shift covered. Which basically means it's a no go, no one ever wants the Friday night shift if they were given it off to begin with... and then there was 3... okay so maybe hotdogs and chips for a fast easy dinner the first night, grab burgers and some eggs and bacon for Saturday sandwiches of course for lunch. Suddenly Amelia's phone rings......

To be continued..... 💙
