Her Own Worst Enemy
#WritcoStoryPrompt39
Some dreams are meant to come true,. But what do you do when your nightmare comes true? Do run the opposite way or face your fears?

She was her worst enemy.
She could save everything but herself.
She endured so much trauma and pain that it became second nature to run from any sign of hurt or heartbreak. .
She'd run from the fear of failure , from the fear of not being enough.
She took drugs to numb her emotions, so for awhile she walked through life feeling nothing less than numb.
She's had her share of running the opposite way when things started to fall apart.
One-day she stopped and stared in the mirror.
She's been running for far too long.
She slowly realized that no matter how long or how far she ran, her nightmares and terrors would be right there. So as she came back to herself for a split second, she couldn't believe how drugs affected her life. Her reality check, checked in. She looks in the mirror again only to realize that she's staring at her own nightmare. Herself. She's holding herself hostage due to fear and insecurities.
After all that time of running from herself, she finally gained courage to put a stop to the nightmare that hovered over her life.
She put the drugs down and found herself again. She smiled. Her nightmare became her dream.
She finally got the courage to face her fears. She remembered that she was a warrior, and she backs down from none. Sobriety looks good on her. She's thinking clearly. Her bravery is inspiring.
Her fears could no longer hold her captive.
She's free.
I am She.
