Accident That Changed Her Life

Asi is ten years old. Like all other kids she liked festivals a lot. It was one time of the year when she can forget all her worries and enjoy.
Asi chose her cleanest piece of clothing to wear. It was a festival afterall and she wanted to celebrate with everyone else. When she stepped into the street a speeding car drove by splashing dirty water on her.
A tear fell down her cheek. The poor had no right to celebrate.
"I hope you die today." Lia shouted in her mind.
Within a heartbeat the car's tyres burst, the driver lost control and crashed into a lamppost. The sound was loud. It shook Asi out of her senses. She could see smoke coming from the car. She was afraid that she had some how caused it. After all she wished the people in the car dead for running her only nice cloth. She decided to run away.
Something stopped Asi. It was her conscience. Few years ago her father had met with an accident. A drunken driver had rammed his Mercedes on her father who was walking on the pavement. The driver fled the scene without trying to help her father who was severely injured. The paramedics luckily saved her father's life but he became severely handicapped from that accident.
Asi wanted to know if everything was ok. She approached the accident scene. A few passersby and shop keepers were also around the car. The driver was bleeding and unconscious. Everyone was afraid to go near because the car was producing a lot of smoke and fire was imminent.
"The driver needs help. Why is everyone silent?" wondered Asi. "Did anyone call the ambulance?" She asked herself.
Asi looked at a shop keeper standing outside his shop and observing the fiasco.
"Sir." Asi shouted at the shopkeeper. "Please call an ambulance."
The shop keeper was surprised by her commanding tone. He obeyed.
She looked around and pointed to a few strong men and woman.
"You. You. You. Come and help me open the door." Asi requested.
A few people joined. They broke the door open and pulled the driver out. He was severely injured. He began to groan.
"Does anyone know first aid?" Asi asked.
A pharmacist brought a first aid kit and try to stop the bleeding. Luckily the ambulance arrived on time and the paramedics took control of the situation.
The police and paramedics commended her for her bravery and correct response.
Asi later learnt from the news that the man she saved was a notorious gang leader. He was wanted for several murders and drug deals in the city.
Once the driver recovered. He came to visit Asi. Upon seeing Asi's father he realized that he was the one who ran over him years ago. He regretted his act and was ashamed of his behavior.
He thanked Asi for saving his life. He promised the family that he will take care of their well being as long as he was alive. Asi's parents were too afraid to decline his offer. Asi was confused why anyone so nice would be accused of such horrible crimes.
The gang leader renovated her house, paid for her education and provide monthly income to her father.
"What do you want to do when you grow up?" the gang leader asked Asi.
"I want to be a police uncle. I want to help people." Asi said.
The gang leader laughed a hearty laugh. Asi didn't understand why.
