PROUD NIGERIANS BY: WAHAB RIANAT
I received a phone call in London from a colleague in Nigeria to deliver a speech on “The uniqueness in Nigeria diversity”. I took a flight the next day and when I arrived in Nigeria, I made a call through my Uber driver to take me to the venue. On our way we were stuck in traffic.

Suddenly, I heard an argument between an Hausa man and a Yoruba man. The former sold some fruits while the later refuses to pay. I found this interesting so I sat uptight to see what will happen next. While all this was going on, a policeman who happened to be an Igbo man threatened to arrest the Yoruba man if he refuses to pay. The three men’s argument broke into a fight. Meanwhile,a young girl crossed the road all of a sudden and got hit by a car in front of the fighting men. Immediately, they separated after seeing the scene and rushed the child to the hospital. The Igbo man fed the girl throughout her stay, the Yoruba man stayed with the girl till she got better while the Hausa man brought varieties of fruits whenever he visit. While I as the observer, paid the hospital bills and together we saved the girls life.

Reality:
The Igbo man, Hausa man and Yoruba man represent the major ethnic groups in Nigeria while the young girl represents Nigeria. As the observer I represent the white man who amalgamated the country to be known as Nigerian. Despite our differences in terms of culture, norms and customs , and to make our diversity unique we need one another to make Nigeria survive. The three ethnic groups makes this nation stronger.” United we stand, divided we fall” and that was I ended my speech and was given an accolade.
