My Boyfriend - The Stranger
Part 2- The Secret

I can’t believe I had slept all the way to the beach. I didn’t even hear the loud music blasting through the stereo and the constant chatting of Cora, Gabriel’s girlfriend of over six months now.
Petite, with short brown hair with a few blond highlights, Cora was the kind of person who made you feel as if you have known them your entire life. With an outgoing personality and a nice word for everyone, cute or not, she was the kind of girl anyone would want as a best friend.
I could understand why Gabriel was acting like a love sick puppy… he was in love. LOVE make people act stupid if you care to know my opinion and sometimes makes you act starngely, it even takes away your intelligence and often make you do stupid things… Like talk a lot and for a long period of time. Ah! but it is all worth it. Love is magic and the most beautuful thing on earth.

Deciding to come back to reality, I opened my eyes to the most beautiful view I have ever seen. Coconut trees, white sands, we were finally there. At the beach…This place was close to my vision of Paradise. And the beach house! Simply OMG!

We all rushed on the house and took a quick tour. There were three bedrooms and a wide furnished kitchen; an even larger living room, a veranda facing the ocean. This place smelled like Cash. A lot of it. Not that it mattered, because a simple bungalow would have been as perfect to me. My curiousity was at its peek and I was about to ask about the owner of this place when Cora’ s excited voice cut through the air, pointing something out to Mark who has been busy taking out the grocery bags from the Jeep with Ben and Gabriel. I took my cell out of my jeans pocket to check the time. Almost 3:00 pm.

The beach was so inviting that we had decided to quickly change into our bathing suits and go for a swim with enough snack and drinks so we didn’t have to go inside the house every now and then. I slowly walked toward the beach.

Mark and Ben were already in the water…And Gabriel was as usual standing near his girl. But this time, they looked different. Was it me, the sun or just the effect of this wonderful place? Sure I was wearing my hat, but the sight of my sexy boyfriend, suddenly got me feeling dizzy and breathless. I tried to smile back but I apparently was the kind of person to have their feelings written all over her face. Therefore, I wasn’t surprise to see him walk in my direction and hear him ask me what was wrong. My first thought was to say that nothing could be wrong in paradise, right? Instead I I blurted out the first thing that crossed my mind “Whose place is this? “ He hesitated a couple of seconds before saying « It’s mine… »

I drew myself closer to him in order to be able to have a better look of his face and replied « Yeah right! » His was face serious…like he was thinking of something. So I laughed, as I usually do in awkward situations, gently punched his shoulder and started to walk near my friends who have been hiding from the hot sun under the trees.

Ben held me back for a moment and said “ This place is mine. Believe me”.

« You are not from here, you told me when we first met. So, Did your folks recently purchase it? Or when you say you are the owner…you mean it’s an inheritance or something? » Those questions, those innocent questions any one wouldn’t mind answering, I let them out with no second thoughts. I tried to avoid his eyes as the little voice that was telling me to be careful came back, this time with the same warning but more panic for every second that passed. After what seemed to me an eternity, he finally answered

“I am sorry…I have lied to you. The truth is that I’ve been abducted and sold to another state when I was 4 years old, but this is my hometown, I was born here in this town. My mother never stopped searching…posting pictures and spending thousands of dollars to try to locate me. When my father died a few years later leaving her with all if his money and possessions, she started traveling from town to town, dedicating her life to find the Life she has carried for 9 months, giving all she could and had until one day her search brought her and the detectives she engaged to my kidnappers and me. That is when I found out those people I was living with were not my real parents. I came back here with my biological mother and I went for therapy and group counseling for a few months. When she died last year I decided to permanently come live here, and made a promise to myself to make up for every year we had lost. I enrolled in the nearest college and decided to settle down in this town. My hometown a town where almost everybody calls me “The Stranger”

I was dumbfounded by his revelations. Not even in a millions years would have I imagined that this was the secret that Ben had been keeping all this time. I remained silent for a few minutes then gently pulled him into my arms whispering into his ear « I am sorry you’ve been through all this. I Love you. And I sealed those words with a soft kiss on his lips.

THE END.
