The Cliche
The Film Director was not faking anymore. He was tired of faking.
"Love is a cliche for me now..!"
"What..? So you dont love me anymore..?"
"Love is for kids and mediocres, Im not a mediocre Katherine."
She didnt know how to respond to that.
"You should find another guy who is an amateur. Maybe an office worker or a clerk? That suits you well" he said.
Both remained silent in their chairs for a while.
The song from the cafe had a femme fatale air to it, He thought. It reminded him of a movie where Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton acted. But he couldnt remember the name of that movie.
"So thats it..?" She asked.
"Im afraid so..!" Removes his shades.
"You know you are breaking my heart..! Right babe..?"
"I think you should also stop faking it Katherine..!"
"So, You think my love for you is fake..?"
"Love itself is fake, and real love is a cliche for me..!" he says that with a sigh.
She takes a cigarette from her handbag and lights it with a lighter. Her hands were trembling.
All the reasons that he told her sounded unreal and alien to her.
She wished it was just a movie scene where everything gets back to the way it was after the director says a 'cut'.
"I have shoot today" he said, looking at his shades.
She remained silent.
"So when are you going back.?" He asked.
"I dont know, maybe im not going back"
"I insist..!"
"You cant, Im not your lover anymore..!" With a determined look.
"But I insist anyway..!"
Silence.
"You know, I can destroy your family, Right?" She said.
He smiled surprisingly.
"Just a call can make your life a living hell. The channels and news reporters can swarm in and raise hell for you..! Make you jumb up and down..!"
"I think I hate cliches, babe"
"But cliches can be very effective for mediocres as you say"
"And it can be so boring for perfectionists."
She took a slow puff. Her breath shivered. His face reminded her of charles Bukowski whom he loves more than his wife and children. She wanted to spit at him. She wanted him to die with his name forever.
"You know, I can tear you apart from my life without a trace if need comes. you are aware of that, Right Kath.?" He said, with great conviction.
"Are you threatening me now, Director.?"
"Just reminding you that im the same person that you met 2 years ago, Thats all..!"
A long silence followed.
"So thats it..!"
"Im afraid so..!"
She stoodup and killed the cigarette in the coffee cup.
"Goodluck for your next movie, Director, and i hope it is free from cliches."
"Happy birthday babe..!" With a low voice and smiling face.
"Tell your wife that I wished her a very warm Happy newyear..!" She takes her bag and hastened to her car.
Her scent reminded him of those nights in the car, where crescent moon lighted the alienated highway sky.
A contempt smile flushed towards his face, because he hated cliches.
"And they lived happily ever after..!" He finished that scene with a punchline.
