Never too late to learn
Nii Amu was born to a family of ten , including parents.He was born to Ataa Laryea and Maame Korkor.
Nii Amu was the fourth child ,his parents were fishmongers as they lived by the sea in Ivory Coast.
He and his siblings helped with the fishing trade which his father had done for ten years ,and his mother smoked the fish and sold it.
Ataa Laryea was growing old and losing his sight,and fishing was becoming difficult with blurred eye sight.
He took his family home to Chorkor,a fishing community in Accra Ghana.He passed away a year after they had settled in Chorkor.
Maame Korkor ,sought help from the Presbyterian Church in the community to admit Nii Amu and his younger siblings into the preparatory school of the church,whilst his older siblings were able to get employment.Nii Amu was enrolled in class one at the age of 12.He did very well in his academic work,and graduated from senior high to University of Education.
Nii Amu gained employment at the ministry of Education.
He believed all children should have the opportunity to education no matter your circumstances.
The government bought the idea ,and to date Free Education is being practiced in Ghana.
Nii Amu was filled with joy and excitement, close to tears as he saw the excitement on the children faces, in their well iron khaki uniforms , he addressed the children on their first day at school, he told them "IS NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN".
