- I think I'm in love.
I said, trying not to allow for any direct eye contact to happen.
But Troy found his way around it and graced me with the most concerned look I've ever gotten.
- What do you mean? You can't be in love. Not now.
He propped himself up on the couch and put his coffee mug away.
- I am, I don't think there's anything I can do about it, Troy - I sighed.
- But you do realize it's impossible for you to... - he began rising his voice.
- Once again, I can't do anything about it. - I threw my hands in the air. - He's everything I've ever dreamed of. It feels just like somebody reached into my heart, took out a part of it, and then created a human being out of it.
A brief moment of silence fell, as he was trying to process whatever just came out of my mouth, and I was attempting to get myself together. Knowing, deep in the gut, that it wasn't going to end up being pretty.
- Gianna, this man is too far away for you to ever look his way. - He smiled with a hint of irony in the left corner of his lips. - It's all an illusion of your mind.
- If you're concerned about what the family will think, be sure that I'm not. Not in the least - I blurted out. - I don't care.
He looked me up and down, still rather amused and annoyed at the same time.
- It's going to cost a lot if you go against your family.
- I'm prepared for that. It's not like my life was ever easy - I tried to sound confident.
He chuckled.
- You have no idea what you're talking about. You're going to be completely cut off, do you understand that? It means that you'll be completely out on your own the moment you go on a date with him. If you go on a date with him. - He pointed his finger at the sky. - And you can't be completely certain he feels the same.
I shrugged.
- Whatever, Troy. I wouldn't want your money anyway. You can decay in your golden egg if that's what you wish. I'm going to live my life from now on.
And, just like that, I stood up and left. Without looking back once.
