The Year 2018. We were on an official trip to Pangi Valley of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Five staff members were traveling in a government vehicle— Mahindra Bolero, commonly considered rough and tough vehicle for such touch terrains. Being associated with H.P Tourism Department, we had a plan to register as many Home Stays as possible so that tourists visiting Pangi Valley may have a comfortable stay even in the remotest and unexplored areas of the Valley.
Pangi valley is often called trekkers heaven and considered a favorite of solo travelers, particularly off-roaders. Valley is also famous for five 'Bhatories'. Bhatori is basically a remotest located habitation of bhot ( Indo-Tibetan) community in Pangi Valley having Buddhist Monastery, a must feature.

During Pre- independence era, Pangi Valley was kind of 'Forbidden Land'. The gazetteers of British Raj also throw light on the tough life of the natives and the inaccessible aspect of Pangi Valley which remains snow bound for six months in a year.

There's also a mention of 'Funeral Allowance' which used to be given to the employees of Chamba Princely state on being transferred to Pangi Valley for collecting land revenue and taxes on behalf of the Raja of Chamba. Reason for this was quite apparent. One had to travel on foot to cross Saach Pass located at the height of 14500 feet to reach Pangi Valley. Many employees had lost their lives while crossing the pass.
