End of the Line
The train conductor walked along the carriage, announcing. "This train will soon be stopping at Brookwood. Please take time to collect your belongings. Brookwood, next and final stop."
A man sitting on an outside seat had just woken and seemed to be agitated. He grabbed the contactor as he passed. "Excuse me, where did you say the train was next heading?"
The conductor freed himself from the man. "Brookwood. Next stop. Final station. End of the line." He answered in a series of short sentences.
"But I don't want to go to Brookwood!" Replied the man.
"Well, if you didn't want to go to Brookwood, why do you have a ticket in your breast pocket?"
The man looked down and indeed he had a single ticket for Brookwood. "Who put that there?" The man asked.
"Maybe the two gentlemen who came on the train carrying you!"
The man's face brightened. "I came onboard with someone!"
"Yes," continued the conductor. "Two men smartly dressed in black suits. And to be honest, you looked, if you don't mind me saying, like you had quite a bit to drink."
The man looked around the carriage.
"Oh! They are not here now. They put you in that seat where you fell asleep next to this young lady and left the train before it departed."
The man looked to his left to see for the first time that he was sitting next to a young woman. "If you could excuse me, I'll like to fetch my case from the overhead rack?" The man shifted to one side so the lady...
