The Holy Sisters 7/7: The Strange Bartender
When Paula got away from the Holy Sisters, she went into the barroom to look for her church group. When she infiltrated inside she did not see Shana nor their pastor. The only ones she saw were the 3 deacon men in her group. Ron, Shawn, and Lynn and unknown faces. Shawn is Shana's husband. Paul was wondering what is Shawn doing in there. Although the 3 of them are deacons, and did not look right inside the so-called congregation room. There were people still partying, and dancing from the hip-hop beats. More drinks were being filtered by the handsome bartender. She approached deacon Shawn.
"Where's Shana?" she asked.
"She stepped out with the pastor," he said.
"I'm ready to go," she said, eagerly.
"We can take you home. This place is not for us. I and Shawn were going to take the first flight out at 1:00 am. The rest of the group seemed drawn here. They go stay two more nights," Lynn and Shawn agreed. Ron was sitting in the back of the bar on a sofa.
"Great. I don't care if the rest wanna stay. I'm ready to leave now. It's almost 11:00," Paula said.
"Anyone of you wants a drink?" The bartender asked them. They were standing 2 feet away from the bar.
"Yeah I take some," Lynn said, moving close to the bar stand.
"Me too," Lynn said.
"What about you miss?" He asked.
"Uh, no thanks, I don't drink. But I will have a club soda. Coka Cola is good for me. You can put it in a paper cup and straw to go," she said. The bartender nodded and poured their drinks. But as she watched the bartender filtered their drinks, she noticed something odd about her drink.
The cup that he poured the soda in was a clear cup that he poured inside was not a soda drink. It was beer instead. From her cognizance, she could tell the difference between Coka Cola and beer. Cokes are darker and soft liquid acids, and beer is light brown stronger liquids. She knew the difference because she drank when she was in high school.
"Naw, I don't want that. I said I don't drink. I used to, but I'm remaining sober. I said I wanted Coka Cola. Not beer," she exclaimed.
"This is soda," he said.
"No, it isn't. I know the difference. Beer is not dark. It's light brown and contains more acids than soda does. I want soda," she informed.
"It's soda miss. Taste it," he suggested, sliding the beverage towards her. Paula picked up the cup and took a sip of the liquid.
"AWW NAAW, THIS AIN'T NO SODA. THIS IS BEER," she roared, putting the cup down
"It's soda miss," the bartender said, giving Lynn and Shawn a wink and looking back at her. Paula caught a glimpse of what he just did. The bartender is hoodwinking her. Giving Lynn and Shawn a mysterious eye signal. The two men looked at each other in agreement. Paula figured it all out of what he was trying to do.
"I know what you trying to do," Paula folded her arms with intent.
"I beg your pardon miss?" He asked, giving Paula a straight face.
"You heard what I said, white boy. I said I know what you are trying to do. I know why you gave them the one-eye look," she said.
"I don't know what you're talking about," the bartender said.
"I wasn't born yesterday white boy. I know exactly what you have up your sleeves. You were trying to get me wasted and pass out while they take me home so they can rape me somewhere. You knew they were taking me home. That's why you gave them that wink."
"Come on Paula, that's enough," Lynn said, grabbing her arms.
"No. I got the message. AND YOU BOTH WERE GONNA FALL FOR IT. AND Y'ALL CALL YOURSELVES DEACONS," she lurched her arms away from Lynn with force.
"Come on Paula. We not your enemies," Lynn said.
"IF THIS IS HOW IT'S GONNA BE SERVING GOD. I DON'T WANT TO BE PART OF IT. I'M DONE. CHURCH AIN'T NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES. AND I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SHAWN. YOU SUPPOSED TO BE SHANA'S HUSBAND, AND YOU WAS GO DO SOME NASTY SHIT LIKE THAT?" She bawled and walked out of the barroom. Since that happened, Paula was not going home with anyone except for Shana. Shana was the only person she trusted. She is never going anywhere alone or getting in any vehicle by herself with men. Paula is going to follow her lead from here on out.
Shawn and Lynn did not say anything. They both had guilty expressions on their faces.
