angel x demon pt 1
Evangeline was sent to Earth to guide humans to do the right thing. Lilith was sent to Earth to meddle with mortal morals. Evangeline is a sweet angel, while Lilith is a cruel demon.
~Evangeline POV~
"Please, I urge you to not rob the bank," I beg of a mortal named Kelly.
"But I have to pay off my student debt. There's no way for me to pay it off otherwise," she replies hopelessly.
"You can take a loan. I belive in you. You have a kind heart, please don't do this."
"What happens if I don't get the loan? I'm done for. I'm going to still have debt when I die."
"No you won't. Kelly all you have to do is ask the bank to give you a loan, which they will happily agree to. Just stay true to your beliefs." I advise her very wise, might I add.
"Alright. I'll save the robbing for another day I guess. Thank you!" She walks into the bank and I know she'll do the right thing.
I feel a tap on my should and turn around seeing an angry red demon, my oldest rival, Lilith. "What the fuck was that?" She asks me with fire in her eyes.
"Woah watch your language."
"Don't tell me what to do goody two shoes. I had her so convinced she could rob the bank. Why'd you stop her?"
"It's not right to rob banks. Besides, if she got caught she'd be arrested and spend a while in jail. I know you probably don't care what happens to her because you cause problems-" she has the audacity to cut me off.
"I care about what's best for her! She would not have gotten caught because I know how to help her get out of sticky situations. If you and your rules didn't exist, then there would be no problems."
"Don't blame my rules for this. If it weren't for my rules the world would be complete and utter chaos everywhere. But that's what you want isn't it?"
"No. I want people to have freedom to make whatever decisions they need to in order to survive. If Kelly gets denied a loan, then she won't be able to afford food this month."
"But-"
"There is no but. If she can't get a loan for whatever reason, then she is robbing the bank. Don't get in my way." She dramatically walks away to sit on a park bench. I wait to hear what Kelly's verdict is when she comes outside.
Kelly comes outside with a frown. "Oh no. How'd it go?" I ask her nervously. She starts grinning like a maniac. "I got it! I got the loan! It's all thanks to you. Thank you for helping me," she hugs me.
"Your welcome. It was my pleasure," I hug her back then we part ways.
It's nice being able to help people. I love my job. I take a stroll through a park and see adorable puppies in the dog park running around. "They're cute, aren't they?" A voice from behind me asks.
I gasp and turn around rapidly to see who it was.
"Other side, genius," the voice says so I turn and see no other than Lilith.
"What are you doing here?"
"Same as you, I'm walking."
"Why are you following me?"
"I'm not following you. You smell too bad for that. I am simply trying to relax. Why do you always assume the worst in me? I thought you angels see good in everything and everyone," she says and rolls her eyes.
"Maybe if I had a reason to belive there's good in you I'd be nicer. You have given me no reason to believe you can be good and nice."
"Maybe I'd think you were cool if you weren't such a rule follower."
"I don't care I'd you think I'm cool. I don't need your approval. I need you to leave me alone." There's something in her eye, but I can't place it. I refuse to name it and have sympathy for her.
"Fine. Done. Have this to remember me by," she hands me a black rose then says, "Goodbye, Evangeline." She flies away to somewhere I don't care about.
For a while I'm accomplishing my quests fairly easily without worrying about Lilith being near me. Every once in a while I feel like somebody's following me, but when I turn nobody is there. It's really easy to keep the world good without Lilith running around trying to turn everyone evil. It's honestly kind of boring now. There's no competition between good and evil. Good always prevails, but now there's no doubt about it. I should be happy, yet for some reason I just can't find joy in winning all the time anymore.
~Lilith POV~
I know you're thinking that I just gave up my wrong doing and stayed away from Evangeline, but that's just a big lie. I don't follow rules. I'm still convincing people to do bad things and it's so much easier without Evangeline getting in my way. Sometimes, I admit, I check in on her to see how she is. It's not because I care about her, because she is a disgusting rule following angel. I want to see her dismay and anguish when she sees that I have convinced an entire town to be evil.
She looks kind of sad this time, but that doesn't make any sense. For all she knows she has convinced an entire city to be good. Why would she be so sad? There's no reason. Evangeline is holding the black rose I gave her before my departure. "It's funny, I didn't realize how much I would miss you. Well, it's not that I miss you. You made my job challenging. I miss that. It's far too easy now. All I have to do is show up and people do the right thing with no questions asked. I would never actually say any of this to you because of multiple reasons. 1 you'd never let me live it down, and 2 I have too much dignity for that." Evangeline is talking to the flower, pretending it's me. I'm debating saying something to scare her, but I decide against it because that's crossing a line. I'm all for crossing lines, but that's just not fair to attack her when she's this vulnerable. I leave.
