When You don't Trust Your Teachers
"Hey you there! What's up? Hope you've not forgotten tommorow's test."
Chukwuma, who just caught up to his friend said pantingly.

"Which test? Oh! that lecturer's test?
The man did not mean the test now! You'll see that we'll not do the test tommorow."
Abbey said nonchalantly.

"Whether we will do the test or not, just read." Chukwuma exhorted.

"Ok. Mr. Adviser, I've heard.
One thing I'm sure of is that the test will not hold because the lecturer said it as though it would or not." Abbey said.

"Either ways, to be on a safe side, Abbey for God's sake, read." Chukwuma pestered.

"It's ok, it's ok. I've heard. Stop shouting". Abbey said.

"That aside, do you understand the lecture we just concluded now because I do not get a thing from what the lecturer taught" Asked Abbey.

"How would you? When you weren't...

"Hey! I did not ask the question to get reprimanded. For goodness sake, it's just a yes or no answer. Yes or no? Period!"
Abbey cut Chukwuma short of his statement.

"Calm down bro. No offence meant.
Just want to state the obvious. You cannot understand when you don't listen. You just have to pay attention and that's all it requires of you.
I'm not saying this because I'm tired of tutoring you but I just want you to know why you never understood whatever the lecturers taught." Chukwuma said.

"Enough with your aggressive tone. If you wants me to listen to your advise, be a gentleman. Haba!
And it's not like I don't listen or not attentive. I just don't get them. Okay, think of this; Why do I always understand when you tutor me?"

"That's true but if your claim of being attentive is right, why then don't you understand?" Chukwuma queried.

"I don't know. Maybe because they lack trust in me and I too don't trust them. Who knows?" Abbey stated.

"That's not reasonable enough. Though, some lecturers are like that; They do not trust any student to pass their course especially those who believe their course is a hard nut to crack. Yet, this shouldn't be the reason you couldn't 'understand' in class and from what I know and that you also know, this is not peculiar to you alone; other students too. Why don't other students too say because the lecturers did not believe they can do well in their course or even well in life, that he/she would not listen in class or read?".

"Don't you get it? I said I do listen and in my capacity, I read too". Abbey explained.

"It's still not making any sense to me.
Okay, let me try to analyse it:
you listen in class but you don't understand,
you listen to me but you understand. Why?"

"Maybe because I trust you, I trust that you know it and once you teach me, I'll understand".

"So? Does that mean the lecturer does not know?
Oh! I think I've gotten it; because you don't trust them, automatically, you have no trust in their words and whatever they say you automatically won't believe and hence, whether you listened or not, you'll not understand and vice versa" Chukwuma analysed after thinking for a while.

"I think you've gotten it now. So, will you explain this to me?" He asked.

"Of course! I will. But you need to work on this your trust issue. Since the source of the problem is known and the only solution is trust. Bro, you need to have trust in the lecturers henceforth".

"Guy, leave that one. We shall see tommorow for the tutorial. I have to be somewhere now."

"Alright, don't forget to read for tommorow's test". Chukwuma reminded.

***

"The test questions were simple. Everything I read was asked." Chukwuma testified.

"Your friend did not do me well oo Chukwuma, he told me there'll be no test today and I literally believed him"
Bala, Abbey and Chukwuma's course mate lamented.

"Oh! He said that? Despite how I drummed it in his ear to read".

Just as he finished speaking, Abbey walked up to them.

"You did not later read despite what I...
Chukwuma stopped when he saw the solemn look on his friend's face.

"I didn't know the test will hold now".
"But it did, how was it?"
"You know I didn't read. Why asked?"

"You see what I told you yesterday? Learn to have trust in whatever your lecturer says. Whether it's the truth or not, just believe!" Chukwuma said.

"Just try to work on this your trust issue and you'll be fine". Chukwuma added.

"Alright, you win. I will". Abbey replied solemnly.

PS: A teacher who lacks trust in his student
sees nothing good in whatever
the student does and this pushes the student
to not trust his teacher;
lose trust in the words of his teacher;
lacks understanding in whatever his teacher explains;
and hence, he tends to fail.
