Scene 1, Chapter 1 : A Turn in Lifestyle
After a long, heavy rain, the fresh smell of the wet soil spread across the area. From a few meters away, a small, but cozy house could be seen. The streetlight enlightened the house with it's warm glow. Two little kids with books and stationery, sitting on their bed peeked through the window.
"Tick - talk.. tick - talk.. tick - talk " the clock kept going. Six-year old Maple couldn't answer the question her elder sister, Hope had asked. Maple's maths exam was due tomorrow. Hope had explained the same thing to Maple four times, in the simplest way she could.
Maple wiped her tears off her cheek as Hope, with crossed-arms, looked at her in silence. She thought " If this continues, how will Maple do good in her studies in higher classes? "
" Don't cry, Maple " Hope asserted. She didn't say anything but kept looking at her book.
In the silent atmosphere, the " Pitter - patter... Pitter - patter " of the raindrops could be sensed again.
The streetlights kept flickering as Maple felt surprised to see 'no signal' showing up on Mrs. Hazel's mobile phone.
Hope realised that she was being impaitent and chided herself. Afterall, it was not Maple's fault that she was unable to understand anything, but Hope was tired of teaching her each and everyday.
