The broken door gave away horror movie vibes, the windows still broken from being invaded by Alpha’s and their zombified humans. Still clinging tightly to Alex’s hand as he led the way down a hall with flashing lights, and to a door that held an operation room. Another doctor I didn’t recognize from the rest of the others, opened the door and asked, “ please sit there.” He pointed to the half ripped hardened foam bed. I sat down, “ If I may, I would like to know why I am here”
“ I don’t know the full reason, just that I have to check on your vitals”
“ But I was just here 2 weeks ago?”
He looked at a clipboard in silence and scooted a creaky chair my way and held his hand out, “ please hand me your hand” I hesitated but Alex put his hand on my shoulder and my hand was now held by this doctor. He checked my pulse, my heart rate, and even asked me if I was able to see clearly?. Anger began to bubble inside of my throat, and the doctor looked straight into my eyes and began to write more onto the chipboard. He then got up, turned to Alex and said, “ please stay here for a moment, I will return shortly” Alex nodded his head and the doctor left.
My heart began to race, something off lingered around the room and haunted me from the inside. I grabbed Alex’s hand and pulled toward me, resting my forehead on his shoulder and clenching his hand in mine. He giggles nervously, “ What’s wrong baby?”
“ something in my heart says this isn’t right but I can’t understand why, and my body feels heavy” I look at him scared but confused. He replies, “ It’ll be okay, the doctor's name is Henry, I was the one who taught him most of the things he now knows.” My body eases a little but Alex never looked at me, he looked tense and on edge, like a watchdog that knew something or someone was around the house lurking. 1 minute goes by…. 2… then 3… and 4… Finally about 20 minutes later a knock on the door makes Alex jump. Regaining his dignanty he replies, “ come in”. In walks a skinny, black with grey striped hair, and bright green eyes, “ hello Miss. Rowan, how are you today?”
“I’d be just fine if I knew what was going on” I mumbled under my breath
“ Well if I am honest we just need to run a few tests” looking at his clipboard he flipped a few pages, before looking outside the door like he was waiting for someone to arrive and help him. The doctor's hands started to shake, his forehead began to sweat, and a few moments later I asked, “ is there something wrong?”
“n-no , just waiting for the nurse is all” while looking at me he smiled an awkward smile making my insides cringe. I looked at Alex nudging him with my elbow, he looked at the doctor and asked, “ So Henry, uh since when was there a nurse here?” Henry’s eyes looked terrified as if just now realizing how dumb his lie was considering we were all in a camp of at least 100 people if not more. “ W-well im just nervous is all” he laughed scratching the back of his head. My anger began to rise with impatience but before I could say anything, the door swung open and 3 other people rushed in the room wearing black full body suits and rushed towards me. Out of instinct I just ended up holding out my knife while Alex stood in front of me, but his facial expression seemed to scare them. Henry comes around the 3 people and looks at me saying, “ don’t be s-scared their o-only going to t-take a blood s-s-sample”
“Uh no their not, I’ve never let anyone take my blood sample, didn’t happen then and won’t happen now” I hoped down moved in front on Henry’s face making my point that I didn’t want my blood drawn and started walking out the the door, but before I was completely out, my arms were being pulled back into the room.
