The Singer of the Mountains

Once upon a time, there was a girl from a very wealthy family. Every summer, her family had a tradition of going to an old family castle in the mountains. The entire family—cousins, uncles, aunts—would gather there, and the girl was always there too. But she was different, known to be the “odd one” in the family. Unlike everyone else, she didn’t care about fancy clothes, big parties, or even the family’s riches. She lived in her imagination, and her novels were her best friends.

For the last ten years of her life—because she was just ten years old—she spent most of her time in her room at the castle. Her room was special; it was connected to a sub-library filled with dusty old books, where she could escape to different worlds. Her bedroom had a large balcony that led to the roof of the castle. From up there, she could see the whole valley below, including a small village called “Garled of King Jhones.”

Not too far from the village, there was a farmhouse where a husband and wife lived with their two children. The older son played the violin every day. As soon as the clock struck four, he would start playing, and he wouldn’t stop until seven. Because the village was in a high valley, the sound of the violin echoed beautifully across the mountains. The little girl, who loved music, was the biggest admirer of this boy’s violin playing. She would sit on her balcony, close her eyes, and listen to the sweet melodies he played.

One day, she started humming along with his violin. She made up little tunes to match his music, and soon enough, it became their thing. Every day, they created melodies together—him from the farmhouse and her from the castle. They never met, never spoke, and never even knew each other's names. But for 63 years, they played their music together.

Some say that they eventually got married, but the truth is, they never did. They stayed strangers, united only by their love of music. Over time, their story became famous, and people started calling them “The Singers of the Mountains.”
