Land of the Dead Volume 1 Part 2
"Wolves" David thought as he peeked out from the window. Wolves have been a complete nuisance to his countrymen ever since the King had started a chemical refinery in the rural areas. The resulting chemicals wastes contaminated the river which also sustained several villages in the area. This caused several outbreaks of diseases and caused most of the wild games to migrate to other areas. Which in turn lead to the wolves unable to catch enough food which lead to them becoming more aggressive towards humans.

David looked into the darkness to attempt to find any signs of the wolves. He was sure the wolves were there, inside the foliage, most likely trying to find a way inside. Seconds seemed like minutes until David saw a bush shake. He slowly took aim and waited until he saw a pair of blood red eyes approach from the bush. He wasted no time and squeezed the trigger...... and all hell broke loose. The bullet hit the wolf near its neck but it merely shook it off before letting out a growl before retreating back into the foliage. Following that, four wolves jumped out of the bushes before running in opposite before running in different directions. David managed to hit one of them in the leg but it didn't even seemed to faze the wolf as it ran out of David's sight.

What followed was a series of angry growls from around the cabin. The wolves were aggressively searching for a way in while avoiding the area overlooking the window where David was standing. There were four windows in the cabin, one in each on the walls. David ran to another windows and spotted one of the wolves. He shot twice. Both of the bullets hit the body of the wolf and it stumbled down on the ground. However it suddenly began getting up much to David's horror. There was no way a wolf could have survived that. He immediately took aim at its head and squeezed the trigger. He saw brain matter splatter as the the bullet went through the wolves skull. After making sure it was dead, he went to another window.

The moment he looked outside, he recoiled in horror. One of the wolf was eating another of its pack. It was the one David had shot in the leg prior to this. David wasted no time as he shot in the head as well. He then began looking for the remaining wolf but he was unable to find it. He searched from all four windows but was unable to find any thing. He momentarily thought that it had retreated after most of his pack was killed until he heard scratching. It was coming from the front door. David slowly walked upto the door with his rifle raised. He stood there for a while until the scratching stopped. David was about to breathe a sigh of relief when something crashed onto the door. He heard the wood splintering from the impact. It was then he realised that the wolf was trying to break down the door. He aimed his rifle and was about to shoot when he heard another loud noise. This time it was followed by breaking glass. He turned around to see a familiar red eyed wolf now inside the cabin amidst the remains of the window.

David aimed the the wolf just as the other wolf hit the door again. Before he could fire however, the wolf lunged and grabbed the rifle. The two then began a tug of war over the rifle. David kicked the wolf in an effort to make it let go of the rifle and in turn, the wolf latched on to David with its claws. Pain exploded in his sides as the wolf's claws embedded into his sides. In response, David held the rifle in one hand while the other snaked around to his side holster where his pistol lay.

Just as he took out his pistol, he heard the door break down. The other wolf was now inside as well. David turned to the new arrival with the other wolf in tow before aiming the pistol at it. Before the wolf could get up, he shot the wolf four times until it fell onto the ground. Then he turned it on to the wolf which had grabbed onto his rifle. The barrel of the pistol hit the wolf's head before David squeezed the trigger three times.

He then felt the the claws grabbing onto him lossen as the wolf's lifeless body fell onto the cabin's floor. David reloaded his pistol before surveying his surroundings, wanting to make sure that he was truly safe. He was met with silence. After it was clear that he was safe, David felt his legs give out as he sat down on the floor breathing heavily.

He sat there for minutes before his eyes fell on the dead wolves again. It was then he realised that the wolves had didn't look normal. Their fur looked old, they had signs lots of other injuries such as scratches and entire areas without any skin. And most of all, they each had disgusting growth on them which almost made David vomit.

He then looked at the time. It was 4:00am. David then decided to resume his journey as he the wolves corpses were already starting to smell. He felt bad for whoever had to clean up the cabin. As he packed his bags and went out of the cabin.
