Phone call to my mom📞
Today I video-called my mom.
Phone ringing.....................
Phone ringing.....................
No answer.
A few hours later...
She texted me: "What's wrong honey, I missed your calls, sorry." "Is everything okay?"
I called her again. She quickly picked up, and I heard her breathing heavily, scared something bad had happened.
She said, "You okay, hun?"
I said, "I'm okay, Mama. I wanted to check on you."
"How are you feeling today? Did you get your insulin?"
...Silence...for few seconds
I said, "Mama? Are you there?"
...Silence... Sobbing... Crying... on the other side of the phone.
I panicked and said, "Mom, Mama! Can you hear me?
..... I hear she is crying.....
"Why are you crying ma? What's wrong?"
I heard her sniffle and gather her voice: "I'm okay, sweetie, I just..." she sobbed again, breathed deeply, and continued, "I just feel overwhelmed with joy."
She continued, "I recently thought about you, all my kids, how joyful it was raising you all, how full and pleasant the house was before you all left. The cries, the laughter and love our house used to carry... and I missed you so much."
..........Silence.........
Now it's my turn to cry. A soft cry, a lump forming in my throat. I cried until I heard her crying too. We cried together.
I cried because my mom is the person who sacrificed so much for us, who lived for us, who never complained.
The moment we were supposed to take care of her, we hesitated because of her sickness but she told us, go my babies, go and achieve the dreams I didn't achieve, go places and see things I didn’t see.
I cried because she thought I would randomly call her because something bad had happened to me.
I cried because I knew she deserved more calls, more moments of my time, and I was sad I didn’t do it more often.
I tell her, "Mama, I love you so much. I'm sorry I don't call more often, but I promise I will now.
I promise to make more time for you because you deserve it. Thank you for everything you've done for us. Thank you for always being there. I miss you too, and I can't wait to see you soon."
