Helping a Stranger.
#WritcoStoryPrompt56
A mysterious disease killed 95% of all humans. You survived by keeping to yourself and being alone. One day, you found a woman stuck under some rubble. She calls for your help and promptly does so. What happened next is up to what you will write.
As I approached the rubble, I could hear faint groans of someone in distress. My heart raced as I quickly searched for the source of the sounds. And then, I saw her. She was trapped under a pile of debris, with her leg stuck and blood seeping from her wound.
My instincts told me to stay away, to protect myself from any potential danger. But something about her made me hesitate. Maybe it was the desperation in her voice, or the fear in her eyes. I couldn't just leave her there to die.
I approached her cautiously, assessing the situation. She pleaded with me to help her, and I knew I couldn't ignore her anymore. I slowly moved the debris away from her leg, being careful not to cause her any more pain.
As I freed her leg, she let out a sigh of relief. I quickly bandaged her wound with the supplies I had in my backpack. She looked up at me with gratitude and whispered, "Thank you."
We sat in silence for a few moments, taking in what had just happened. I was surprised by how good it felt to help someone again. It had been so long since I had interacted with another human being.
As we sat there, I realized that I didn't even know her name. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name," I said, breaking the silence.
She looked up at me and smiled. "My name is Emily," she replied. "What's yours?"
"I'm Alex," I said, feeling a sense of relief wash over me as we introduced ourselves.
We talked for a while longer, getting to know each other. Emily had been traveling through the area when the disaster struck. She had been trapped under the rubble for hours before I found her. I was amazed that she had survived for so long on her own.
After a while, we both realized that it was getting late. I offered to let her stay with me for the night, and she gratefully accepted. As we settled in for the night, I couldn't help but feel grateful that I had found her.
As I drifted off to sleep, I wondered what the future held for us. But for the first time in a long time, I felt hopeful. Maybe, just maybe, we could rebuild the world together.
