Prince Liam P.O.V
I had finally gotten her back with me. It felt so good to have her by my side again. I knew that the moment I saw her in that cave, I would do anything to fight for her. As we had walked down the dirt road, I could tell she was lost in thought. I figured if I held her hand or caressed her more, she’d feel more comfortable.
We heard rough wheels against the road before a carriage appeared into view. I was sure it was my father’s guard coming for us. He pulled the carriage right beside us before jumping off the front seat, laying the reins down on the front pole.
“My prince.” He said, bowing to me.
I put my hands on Amethysts shoulders, giving them a quick squeeze before walking over to the man.
“Daren, what is it?” I spoke, keeping my voice low.
He looked over to her.
“She is to be the new Queen, yes?”
I nodded. “She is, why?”
“My lord, there have been rumors that a woman of that appearance was the accomplice of Tobiath…”
“That is most likely not true, my friend, and you know that.”
He shook his head slowly back and forth. Looking back up to me, he said in a grave voice,
"They will torture her if you bring her back."
Amethyst had looked up from the ground and looked to me, a hint of curiousness in her eyes. I gave her a small smile as she looked out into the distance, her beautiful, dark hair swaying behind her as a small breeze of warm wind blew by. I directed my gaze to his again.
"She is to come back with me to the castle." I said in a stern tone, "And you must understand that I will go after anyone, no matter who they are or what kind of relation they have with me, to keep that woman safe." I said after taking a step toward him.
I glimpsed a hint of fear in his eyes. I narrowed mine.
"You would not go after her would you, Daren?" I questioned.
"No, brother, I would not." He replied.
"Do not let her know who you are to me yet. I will introduce her to everyone at a different time." I told him, looking back to my mate before continuing, "Now, you get back in the carriage. I will get her and I back shortly. You go too, Sir Thomas." I said finally addressing her again.
He nodded before climbing back into the carriage, whipping the reigns up, and going back home. I looked after him, watching the dirt move up into the air as the horses trotted.
Amethyst looked as if she wanted to speak, but held back. I walked up behind her and put my arms around her waist.
She'd spoken the words, "My Prince" ever so softly. I never quite liked those words coming from her mouth. She was to be my mate, my wife, my lover, my equal. I had told her before to only say my name. When I told her to call me her husband, she refused. I couldn’t figure it out. I was connected to her and felt it, but why did it seem like she didn’t?
She looked down once more now, seeming to be caught in her own thoughts. I put my amr through hers as we continued walking down the road. The village lay just up ahead and the stone road to it only a few feet away now.
"What is it, Amethyst?" I questioned, looking down at her.
"What is what?" Her voice spoke softly.
"What is it you're thinking about?"
I heard her take a deep breath. Her arm was tense against mine. It was like I could feel her nervousness.
"No one will harm you, that I promise..."
"No, it's not that." She said quickly, "I do not know how this all happened, I just..." She paused, finally meeting my eyes as we walked up the small grass hill to the dirt road. "I've just wanted answers. All this time, that was it."
"What answers, my love?" I asked becoming concerned.
"To why I feel the way I do for you, why my parents took me to the sirens, why you seem to like me so much, I mean I hardly even know you!" She explained frantically.
I pulled my arm from hers and wrapped it around her shoulders.
"You will find out in time, darling I promise." I said, placing a kiss atop her head.
"And why you continue to do that." I heard her mutter.
"And what would 'that' be?" I asked with a smirk.
"I ask you for answers and I get are the words 'in time' and..."
"Patience, my sweet Amethyst." I said around a laugh.
She nodded and turned her gaze back to the road.
"There is much we need to teach you in order to be the next queen." I said.
