Chapter 1
"Mum" I open my eyes slowly,my heart still beating hard against me from my nightmare,Mum was gone her absence felt daily even after 5 years but the dream kept on coming,her words about never leaving me always the last thing on my mind after each nightmare but Mum was gone and that fact was like a dead hole within me.I get up from my bed and walk towards the shower to prepare for the day and also to leave the house quickly to avoid interactions with my 'dad' and i use the term loosely.
"Morning Father" I say quietly as i come down the stairs,praying within for some peace
"Uh huh"Drunk as usual,He mumbles his reply as he grumbles about some stupid thing perhaps,His face glued to whatever sport that was being shown on Tv "When are you expecting this month's salary Pearl? cause I'm in need of some cash" He turns my direction,looking me up and down causing me to shiver in disgust as my stomach does a little flip.....I purposely ignore his question,walking towards the fridge to get some water "Get me a beer from the fridge and next time I ask a question,i'll need an answer,understood?"
I nod my head and enter the kitchen,'that's all you're good at......to drink,gamble,relax and waste someone's money,silly old man' I mumble under my breath as emotions surface,I've hardly made it to the fridge when the air is knocked out of me as i hit the nearest wall making me wince in pain....Father comes into my blurry vision,wrapping his hand round my throat
"Who did you call old?You lack respect these days woman and if you don't want some reminders......you better know your place cause I won't mind giving you some punishment I've got in store for you" His eyes twinkle with evil intentions as he slowly lowers his face into my personal space......With all the alarms going off in my head....I loosen his hand on my throat and run out of the house and into my beatup truck driving away as his laughter echo after me,my safety first and foremost in my mind......

Jeremy Williams had barely entered the restaurant when the sweet aroma coming from the kitchen blasted him with full force as it always did whenever he visited his sister Karly who he had gifted the building to the day she had graduated from college cause she'd always been asking for it even before she had graduated...... Then he had thought it wasn't a great idea cause the restaurant was nothing fancy just a modest building and nothing like what they were used to but she'd insisted and had turned it into a popular spot that even him loved visiting partly for the food and to see his sister but mainly for a beautiful waitress with grey eyes and fawn colored hair. He came here as often as his busy schedule would let him to see her not like he'd admit to it yet but his days were good whenever he saw her....... He was good at reading people and he could tell she wasn't the friends-making type and wanted to tread softly with her, He didn't want her to reject him and hadn't approached her yet even though he wanted to so he just watched from far for now...The door to his sister's office opened just as he was close to it and the girl of his thoughts walked out almost bumping into him.... Surprise crossed her face as she looked up at him before fear then filled her grey eyes and she lowered them...
"Sorry sir"Why was she apologizing? I lift my hand to touch her arm in a reassuring way when she trembles slightly and I stop myself.
"No Pearls, I should apologize for walking into you, not you"
"It's OK sir, Am good but I should get back to work right now" She looks up at me for a brief moment before walking past me to the staff room and I know that she feels the thing between us whatever it is and I wanted to see where it would lead to.
"Morning Jer" Karly's sitting in her office watching me as her blue eyes twinkle in amusement and her mouth perks up in a smile and I walk in happy to see her as I hug her tight
"So what were you telling Pearls? I ask her as she laughs shaking her head against me and I pinch her at her side but she just laughs harder
"You've got it bad for my employee right" it's more of a statement than a question so I don't need to answer it but deep down I already knew the answer and i just smile
