Jack
When you get to a certain age a lot older than you expected, some of us begin to realize that playtime is over with. We realize aging isn't almost at all as bad as it was made out to be by elders you heard say back in the day. Yeah you hear about the aches and pains that hurts and stiffens these old bones the skins thins and the entire person bruises a lot easier.
What no one told us was just as much of that hurt those bad things are interacted by some of the most sensitive reactions like that thin skin of yours,,
Like aged wine alotta things get a lot better wit age.
Even a longing lives a life nobody chose to tell us about. All the attentions are solid as intended making life more interesting than it was when you were younger thinking that you've felt as good as it get.
Don't allow yourself to be fooled by certain ages and never underestimate that little word called love.
Don't rule the stuff out because one day it'll gitcha
right in the middle of your you know what.
That's what Kathy BKS Kit found out when she met Jack. Jack was an attender that cook for and served the elders at the senior citizens on Blake and Main in Towneyville.
Jack was the son of the man running the place his name's not important because Jack is the one that made Kit a rebeliever in love again.
He was a soft spoken man in his well not retired age yet but his hair was almost completely gray but the few strands that's black still considering.
Some of us gray faster than others excusing the dye we use to hide how we see it.
Kit's first day there was surprising to what she thought her boring new job would be. No she wasn't there for a paycheck she wanted to serve the elders hoping that when she got older someone would think that she deserved to be served.
Jack wasn't there the day she went in to fill out her application, him she would've noticed his day off or something. She went in early that morning there was Mr. Newson the man that ran it Mrs Bell the lady that hired her and some of the seniors all sitting around talking.
The building was like one of those old warehouses
with tall ceilings that you could see some of the beams it was carpeted with gray carpet and very clean. There was a lounging area complete with a 55inch TV hanging on the wall a sofa a couple of arm chairs two book shelves full of books and some board games.
The entire building smelled so good it made Kit hungry.
Good morning, they all said when she noticed him backing in the dining area carrying a steaming large pan of something with bell pepper.
It was stuffed bell peppers, his eyes caught her and Mrs Bell had to touch her on the arm
this way she said.
She showed Kit to the office off side of the kitchen at the end of the building where she would keep books.
The small office wasn't much a wooded desk, a black leather chair, a phone some filing cabinets.
There was a medium stack of papers in the middle of the desk that Kit sat down to get started on.
Gimme a shout if you need anything Mrs Bell said feel free to eat or drink whatcha like from the kitchen Jack is a good cook.
Jack huh, Kit thought the brother looked as if he was good at a lot more than cooking. More of the seniors came in to eat, the food was out for them to serve themselves. One of the best things was that those elders got some good hot meals of their choice.
Kit watched the coming and goings as she did the paperwork.
A lot of the seniors have family members that look in on them but those that don't come there for mostly company. There's this older man older than the seniors that walks with a walker and he could hardly hear but he still came there to talk with the others elders. They all being at peace having done all their live's duties shown in their eyes.
To Kit's wonder a thought of her being an elder when her time comes. What caught her attention was that Jack walked back in carrying a almost frozen orange juice for the old man it being his favorite to drink.
Jack treating every one of them like they were his family. Throughout the day Kit noticed that he took his time to sit and talk to each one of them asking about their needs to be taken care of.
He took out a little yellow pad each time he talked to one of them and wrote something down.
Kit didn't know it but it was the chores around their houses that he took care of when needed like fixing wheelchair ramps mowing their lawns etc.
Kit didn't mingle she sat at her desk and ate the paper bag lunch that she brought with her.
The day went by fast before she knew it, it was time for her to go home. Home to an empty house her kids were all grown and gone her husband died sometime back that she hate for to cross her mind.
Her house wasn't anything to brag about a 3 bed 2 bath but it was hers and paid for. She wasn't lonely kinda happy really because now her life was all hers.
Not that she minded but she had time for whatever she wanted to do which wasn't much at all.
Home where she could chill out and think and keep her mind on what she was actually thinking about that being Jack. Jack an actual flesh and blood man that she could see with her own eyes no internet no phone no computer that she was once into before. There you're made to be one thing or another with too much consumption one way or another. You don't really know to whom you're talking or who's talking which is the point.
Once you actually start talking to just one individual you're considered prejudice of many things color, sex, etc but something. On the internet Kit had to learn to be herself no matter what was going on she had to learn not to read others writing or like that she did like of some not to be accused one way and another not commenting on nothing.
The writing app that she was on was somewhat better than others a whole better that she would use when she had time which wasn't much.
The days were hot now meaning lawn mowing trash burning for Kit up keep of her property now she's added a job to the mix. Her life was stable if nothing else but she wanted a companion not saying a lover or employee but someone equal in soul and spirit. The internet had been a failure on that count too much lolly gagging too much jealousness some trying to be an internet star which Kit never wanted no part of.
The internet to her was like the TV a box were you had the stars but her page was hers to write not to be a star. Her last encounter with someone on the app taught her that she didn't know the person that she was talking to and to stop talking.
Now it's just a place to hold her writings not to have friends or anything. For her it's not really needed her life was to her liking excusing the app is there.
Kit put her phone down that night cut it off and put it on charge made a quick bowl of chicken Ramen noodles are and went to bed.
The next day it felt strange going in to work her having seen Jack getting a feeling instant attraction.
His long white apron covered his upper body down passed his knees but his statue was eye worthy enough to make a woman look at. His deep soft spoken voice catches your attention enough to make you look up from whatever you're doing.
Being busy in her work Kit didn't hear his first
knock, he knocked again this time louder. Kit looked up over her glasses yes she said yes meaning so much more than he knew.
Up close and personal he wasn't the best looking man in the world but Kit had learned over the years that look isn't the most important thing in her world.
Handing it out coffee?? he asked walked over to her desk and putting the cup down.
I'm Jack nobody introduced us.
Yeah she said I'm Kit I mean Kathy reaching her hand out to shake his. As he touched hers she noticed that his hand was one of the warmest she'd ever touch. That warmth of his touch went all over her body touching settled things unsettling them.
There's this moment in meeting someone for the first that is touching that many of us miss or ignore. His eyes were like a written message that makes you want to read ever word everytime you look in them.
Now Kit's day twisted from normal to nervous shaking even her handwriting.
Kit blinked breaking the eye contact that he held so smoothly with just a glance one moment that seem like longer. Her hands cupped the cup
thank you she said, holding her down not to look him in the eye. I'm cooking lunch abe ready soon he said, walking out of her office.
I can't wait Kit thought getting back to her work.
